I have a welder, a can-do attitude, and a desire to not spend $2000 and/or wait 6 months on a roof rack. But rather than driving myself nuts trying to engineer my own rain gutter clamps, I'm just going to use the ones Specter Off-Road sells for 40-some bucks. I have a question about the sizing though. The bigger racks (Which they say will fit a 45-series troopy) are 5" clamps, but the smaller 40-series racks are the longer 7" clamps.
Is there any reason the lower-profile 5" clamps won't work on a shorter wheelbase roof, if I'm building my own platform/basket?
