Anyone know if there is some easy mod to mount the spare tire on the rear door like the prado? Hoping maybe there are some hidden bolts or mount that they just skinned over. I'm assuming the door is the same and/or strong enough.

I really doubt it. I wonder if a Prado rear door would bolt on? That would be pretty cool.

If you did that you'd need to get Prado tails or else people couldn't see your backup lights and of course relocate your license plate.

I looked into this. The Prado door would work but it wouldn't line up perfectly and it would be EXTREMELY expensive to source, ship, and install.

I went the bumper + mount option for less money.

Got it, I would go that way but don't want to add extra weight.

Anyone ever take the rear door off? It would be awesome if it could have removable pins put in so that it could be taken off easily like a heep door

we are in course of action intend to achieve a result that make the tire bracket strong and be able to open the door also would look almost factory for 470 GX .it should happen in next couple weeks .i keep you in loop

I'm assuming nothing ever happened on this project?

Mine has been back there for almost 2 years :P

your Assumption is correct my friend .during past two years everything I thought of building for this vehicle was equal with extreme amount of weight which than translate to be heavier and heavier Lexus so I gave up the two item i made was winch bracket at 38 pounds and rock slider at 25 pound each they both were tested and pass the test the rear tire bracket i just could not build one for less than 100 pounds weight so I scrap that idea

Out of curiosity, what about the Prado door on to the GX would not line up properly? Do you have specific measurements, by chance?

The body lines are completely different

The body lines are completely different

No disrespect meant here, but I am wondering how you know this? Have you been able to physically compare them? or get precise measurements?

I think the body lines look super dang close from the rear and I would love some hard evidence to convince me otherwise. :p Maybe the side view angles are all wrong? still searching google....

And this is not just for the rear tire, but also for the inside latch that the Prados got and the Lexus didn't.

(images taken from random google search just trying to see the angles and lines)

And for fun, another Prado 120. Possibly Euro-spec? But has the same style of no-spare rear door as the GX470:

I guess I just have a hard time believing that Toyota would make these two vehicles this close to the same, but then alter the rear main part of the body like that. Why not just make an entirely different vehicle (design- and manufacturing-wise). Just seems so strange, but yet, I'm sure stranger things have happened. The front end kinda makes sense as it is just different fenders, hood, headlights, grill, and bumper--not a /ton/ of work i'd wager, and you get to keep the rest of the body completely the same for both vehicles....would save a ton on manufacturing I'd imagine (but i am admittedly no expert in that area.... :p ). I dunno. I'm not satisfied. :p I'd love some more info if anybody's got any.... :D

Maybe they will. I gambled on the front bumper and made it work so stranger things have happened

Only one way to know for sure, it looks damn close to me, but it's an expensive gamble to take. Ever consider one of those hitch mounted tire carriers?

I saw one on instagram on a 120 and thought it looked good. I think the one pictured is from Wilco, but at $800 and 100lbs - I think I would opt for a full rear bumper.

$350

CBI fold down hitch tire carrier

The gentleman is rich, I'm sure he'll buy one and test it.
I do drive a Lexus you know ...:pompous:

And why is everyone so concerned about adding weight ... its not a race car or an extreme rock bouncer ... i wouldnt try to add weight on purpose .... but some people obsess over it like "nope I'm not gonna compromise taking on weight for what I need... I want a winch but they weigh too much I'll get someone else to pull me out...iv got this 33" wheel and tire strapped to my roof or taking up all my room in the trunk to save weight"...

Is it bc of gas mileage?
That left the room when we put heavy off road tires on the vehicle. .. it already wasnt the most econ friendly to start with

And I'm not picking on anyone in particular
I just see people saying this all the time ...

I don't think the gx has a tuff time carrying the extra loud ... it's got plenty of power... iv got front and rear steel bumpers and I never felt it make a difference

Just my $.02
