New suspension and other goodies from total chaos started showing up. King 3.0 internal bypass coilovers with 700lb springs fro the front and 3.0 bypass shocks for the rear. Total chaos customer service has been outstanding answering questions about adapting this stuff to the gx460 since king hasn’t officially realeased the 3.0 setup for the 460s yet. I had their +2” expedition long travel in the cart and ready to order, but a good friend that will be installing the fronts admitted that even though he loves his long traveled 4Runner, he would’ve went with this setup if it was available when he did his.

Found a warn evo 10 winch locally and will probably pick it up tomorrow or next week if I find time.
Christmas in March!! 🎄 (even though you had to buy it all yourself...)

I was eyeing the 2" Expedition kit last night... 👀
I may still do it in the future when it’s not a daily driver, but having my buddy that races down in Baja and builds and owns LT stuff tell me that he would’ve gone this route sealed the deal for me. I’m one of those guys that likes to think he does enough to justify it, but in reality I probably don’t lol.

Plus l, while this setup wasn’t much less the money saved will help me get the build further along.

Did he elaborate on why he would have?

He was talking about the maintenance and drivability of it as a daily driver along with all the extra stuff you have to do with going to long travel. Nicole at total chaos also stated that if I was on the fence about doing this setup or the long travel that I should go this route. She said that their gx460 with this setup is amazing and will do everything I need it to. She said the coilover springs being wider in diameter really helps with the ride quality offroad. She said it’s basically a race truck without a cage. I guess we’ll find out next week how true that is.

That last sentence is definitely hype on her part haha. I have no doubt it'll be better but without long travel it'll never be "basically a race truck without a cage." Sooooo many more factors there, largely the weight one. Interested to hear your feedback though.

Yeah I’m sure she embellished it some. I did like the fact that when I told her I was ready to buy either setup she actually told me I’d probably be happier with this and explained why.

I’ve had the new suspension setup on for a couple months now and I like it more than the 2.5 kings. It’s smoother all around especially at lower speeds even with the 700lb springs up front with no added weight. Front bumper, winch, switch pro, and lights are ready to all go on as soon as the engine skid arrives. Any tips on wiring everything up? What would be the best way of attaching the wiring for the winch and switch pro to the battery? I want everything as clean and safe as possible.

For the wiring, use stranded wire, use a larger gauge wire than you think, solder ALL your connections and use marine grade adhesive shrink wrap tubing for ALL your connections:

I second this. Waterproofing is KEY. It's the best way to prevent fires and rework.

As for the "cleanest" way to do things, let us know if you figure it out. Everyone has their own definition of clean. You can see mine in my build thread (two breakers, one leading to an auxiliary fuse panel and one for the winch). What looks good to some may not to others. Just make sure that nothing is at risk of rubbing and that serviceability is maintained. You could make everything disappear if you wanted to, but you'll hate yourself when the time comes to change something up.

Even though these are quick and easy, I'd suggest solder and shrink tube.
Use these for low voltage/amperage wires.

When moving up to larger tire sizes and more offset how are you guys taking care of the rubbing on these fender brackets? I’m getting rid of all my reservoir rubbing issues by going to either 17x8.5 -25 or 17x9 -38 wheels and new tires.

If it were me, I'd grind off the spot weld with a handheld belt sander, bend the tab 180* over, and bolt it back on to the inner fender and chop off the rest. It'll probably only gain you an inch, but it's a game of inches with these cars.

Well, it’s been an eventful few weeks. We got the reservoirs squared away with a set of 200 series lc king reservoir mounts and I can actually turn lock to lock now. Also got the goose gear drawers in and waiting on a cooler for the fridge slide. Getting new tires next week. I decided to be sensible and stick with the 285/70s since this thing isn’t a rock crawler and with the added weight of the bumper and winch I’m starting to feel the loss in power. Will probably regear without lockers in the future. Got the bumper, winch and lights mounted up this weekend and it looks great. Everything still needs to me wired up to the switch pro, but that should get done this weekend. Just need to pick up some recovery related stuff and it’s off to Colorado next weekend.

Also, what are our options as far as washer fluid reservoirs or protection? I saw one that was $369 and was pretty nice, but while I’m a fan of quality stuff I’d like to keep from spending that much.

Turned out great, excited to hopefully see the both of you on the trails in Colorado in few weeks. If you're planning to do gears I would seriously consider a rear locker while you're in there, it'll be a huge boost to the trucks capabilities. Going back with the same tire or something different this time?

I’m thinking the new toyo rt trails. Mud terrains are getting on my nerves lol

Got the winch, switch pro, and all the lights wired up yesterday. Also got a new set of toyo rt trails mounted earlier this week. Just need to relocate the backup camera and license plate light to the spare tire today and unspool the winch and respool it and attach the prolink. It’s been a crazy month, but that’s what I get for procrastinating.

Looking good!
