Great looking truck! Great job! I too vote for the split rims. You don't see them on many 40s (at least not in the U.S.).

great thread , pictures, description are great. beautiful work and great looking cruiser!!

I love to see the result of hands on craftsman using basic tools. I have a lot of respect for that. A LOT. Thats' the way a cruiser should be build. To many people up here turn to high tech approaches right away, and folks usually just buy premade stuff. Most here in the us have forgotten these kind of skills exist.

Welcome:flipoff2:
Great write up!
How long did all that actually take??
I am sure you are afraid to take it on the roads down there! (Don't worry - first scratch and you will be ready to put a cig out on the dash! :grinpimp: )

Did you get this fj in El Salvador? I was over there a few years ago. Since my parents from El Salvador, They have alot. It was great to go over there and see all of them and how people use them ever day still to work of for family

Responses.....

Sorry for the length of time to resond to the questions, have been traveling.

Hugh -- It took ~9 mos. This was with working on it pretty much every day - either wrenching or looking for parts. And yes, I drive it all over the place in El Sal. It is my daily driver.

FJ40forLife - I bought it here, and it was a mess. But...it did have a good frame and the engine was solid. There was more rust, etc. than I thought, however. I did not expect to to have to put in as much new steel as I did.

Later!

FWIW, my 76 fj40 has holes with the following switches and knobs in them:

Warm Pull
Fresh Pull (fresh air inlet)
Hazard
Cig
Fan Pull
Choke Pull
Wipe Wash

I have two holes plugged from the factory.

Also, just a little thing, I think you taillights are upside down. I believe the reverse (white) section go towards the inside of the rig...

Great looking cruiser you should be very proud!

like those floor boards. and the clean tranny cover. that is how mine is. where did source the rubber mats?

thx jim

Great project. I agree with Mark in that old skills should be used more on Land Cruisers. I have a real body repair pro form Old Mexico working on my frame-off 70 project and he shuns the mig for his old school method of torch and haywire(tie wire). I have friends who have never heard of this. Bill

Great build up!

Hi All:

"RammaJamma," that is one *beautiful* FJ40!

The amount of effort and detail put into the re-build is incredible! Thanks for sharing with us!

You should be able to import that rig into the USA without problem; it is more than 25 years old.

Regards,

Alan
