Source for CS130 alt resistor? (1 Viewer)

Title says it all. Did the search here and the interwebs. Trying to find a replacement 50 ohm resistor. The old 12si alt used that and the paperwork I dug up for a serpentine conversion calls for 50 ohm with the CS130. Although I've seen 85 ohm mentioned elsewhere. I would like to know what wattage is appropriate as well.

Are you talking about making a 12si into a self-exciting 1-wire alternator? If so, I always used a small diode rather than a resistor.

you can use a small bulb and socket instead of a resistor

if the light stay on with the engine running , the alternator is bad

i just use pick one from a car parking light ,at no cost

I'm not converting an alternator. I'm rewiring an engine with a CS130 that had a 12si before.

And I don't want to run a light bulb. Just need to find a new resistor.

Thanks. That's an option, but I already bought the connector. Shoulda looked at that first. Hoping I can find just the resistor

Up to 300 ohms +/- from what I remember. 2 watts for 100 ohms, 1 watt for 200 ohms, 1/2 watt for 300 ohms... if I got my math right.

Go to an electronics part shop and ask for a 50Ω (or higher), 5Watt (or bigger) ceramic, wire wound resistor.

X2 the above is what I used on my cs144 install for the excitor. Haven't had any problems since installing it about 2 years ago. My harness had an excitor wire but the first alternator lived just long enough to get me far from home and crapped out so I soldered this in. I found it at radio shack for two dollars or something
