I’m not sure what you’re saying? Are you suggesting that 196 degrees is too hot? And that sealing the shroud to the radiator would bring the temps down?

I did not notice much if any change with my Ron Davis until after I spent some time reworking of the shroud and its sealing. This time of year most 80 series will stay under 200°.

I can tell you looking at you porn(very clean BTW) you will see better cooling performance by properly sealing between the radiator and radiator support alone.

I know of 2 others that have removed there brand new RD and received better cooling with stock due to bad seal. Ron Davis, unless the design changed from 2003 does not play well with the factory shroud.

Then you are about as cool as you going to get :D After you seal between the radiator and radiator support:flipoff2:otherwise you are circulating hot air back into the feed of the radiator.;)

While I was in Colorado for vacation a few weeks ago I stopped by Slee Offroad and picked up the IBS dual battery system. I was able to wrench on my truck a little this weekend and finally installed it.

I have a sweet ARB refrigerator in the back of the truck. It has a battery protection feature, but I was always a little worried that the fridge would draw the main battery down enough that the truck wouldn't start.

I was a little dissapointed in the cable supplied by Slee to connect the two batteries. It's welding cable, which is very flexible, but seemed undersized at #4. And it's not rated for automotive use because oil deteriorates the insulation. Not a good thing under the hood of a truck.

I upsized to 1/0 SGT rated battery cable from CustomBatteryCables.com. They were super-helpful and the cable is badass. Probably way overkill, and a little difficult to work with, but here we are.

The IBS system is pretty slick. When the engine is running, the (new-150-amp-Photoman bracket and) alternator charges both batteries. When you flip the truck off, the IBS system automatically disconnects the batteries through a 200 amp relay, so you don't drain down your main battery with accessories. It also has a "link assist" feature in case your main battery dies, you can start the truck using the auxiliary battery. It displays the current charging rate and current charge on each battery. I haven't had a chance to mess with it much, but it's really nice.

I still have some minor adjustments to make on the routing of the cable and protecting the insulation. But the system is working well.



Also on the agenda is to install these Hella horns. I assume I need to use the supplied relay?

My girlfriend and I took the Land Crusher for a spin this weekend. We went to a local brewery and then drove to the lake for some off-roading.


What do you think, should I install my OME Heavy springs in the rear? The BIO rear bumper and tire carrier make the rear squat.

Quick question - why did you run the positive cable around the whole engine instead of across the front behind the hood latch?

I thought the cables would be prone to damage/rubbing in that area. I also might fabricate a radiator air guide and I didn't want the cables in the way.

Sorry everyone, I've been distracted working on my new ride. It's a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road double cab automatic. This is the first time I've ever owned a new car/truck, and it's amazing. All of the off road features on the truck are really cool. It has an electronic locking rear diff (like the Cruiser), plus Mult-Terrain Select. Which basically functions as a simulated locker using the ABS system.

Plus the Crawl Control feature is really cool. Here are a few vids that highlight the function:

Since buying it I've swapped out the front grille, added sliders and skid plates, installed a Decked storage system, and installed some glare graphics. I expect I'll slow down on the mods for a while and get back to wrenching on the Cruiser.

I also swapped out my SOR seat covers to these new Marathon covers (to keep this somewhat Cruiser related). I love the color of the Marathon covers! It matches my interior perfectly.

They are 1/4” NPT to -6AN fittings. And then -6AN 90 degree push-lock fittings to 3/8” Fragola hose.

  • 1/4” NPT to -6AN: SUM-220647B
  • -6AN Push Lock: FRA-209006-BL
  • Derale Cooler: 13260
  • Fragola/Parker 3/8” Hose: FRA-871006
Edit: I said 45 degree push lock fittings, but they’re actually 90 degree.

You are correct, it's 9mm metric hose barbs on the other end. But the parts-list above is just for the "power-steering-cooler" side.

The 1/4" NPT fittings mount directly into the Derale cooler, and then the -6AN push-lock fittings mount on the NPT fittings. From there it's just conventional 3/8" hose to the metric hose barbs on the pump and resevoir, respectively. The 9mm hose barbs on the reservoir and power steering outlet are close enough to 3/8" hose that it doesn't matter. You just use conventional hose clamps.

1/4" Female Derale Cooler -> 1/4" NPT Male/-6AN male -> -6AN Push Lock -> Fragola 3/8" Rubber Hose -> 9mm Metric Hose Barbs on Reservoir/Pump


Edit: You are basically just replacing the section outlined in red in the diagram with the Derale cooler and fittings/hose. The supply and return lines circled in green remain the same (9mm hose barbs). Then ends of the 3/8" Fragola hose connect at the green hose barbs to complete the fluid circulation.

I’m not sure what you mean? My truck is a ‘93 FZJ80 with the 1FZ-FE motor.

Yes, the lines on the transmission are the same. They are 9mm male hardlline hose barbs coming off the OEM auto trans. You can run the OEM rubber lines to the Ron Davis radiator if you like. That's assuming you have the same setup as mine, with -6AN push lock fittings on the RD radiator.
