Selling the Cruiser.
It's a tough decision for me, but it's time.

The truck is as described in my sig line
a 1991 fj80 that went to Costa Rica and received a 1993 hd-T motor transplant.

Legally registered in California with the diesel motor.

it worked great for me for several years, then failed driving from Utah to California.
It'll start, reluctantly, and drive, very reluctantly. It seems like cracked rings on at least one cylinder and oil is escaping into the exhaust as well.

highlights: ARB bullbar, dual battery trays, OME suspension (the front is brand new, literally dozens of miles), tuffy console, nice JVC stereo w/ component speakers both front and rear, big storage bed-box. ARB air locker in the rear. Manual tranny h150 (lower 1st gear than the h151), locking hubs up front (part time 4wd), some other stuff that I'm surely forgetting.

I'll get some pics up, soon, but wanted to post this up before the weekend.

I'm asking $8,000 OBO for it. If you do the rebuild yourself, you'll have a LHD 80-series w/ many goodies for around $10,000. If you hire out the rebuild, it'll run $4K-$6K depending on who you use and what you do.

If you're seriously interested, let me know. best email is _sjb_ (those are underscores) at yahoo
The rig is sitting at Valley Hybrids in Stockton (orangefj45's shop).

important note: This truck is legally registered in California, with the correct, unaltered VIN and the diesel motor. The tags are current.
I can send a copy of the registration to interested parties.

That's worth quite a bit of nail-biting, hassle, and time vs. doing your own conversion. ;)

also a pyrometer (egt) and boost gauge in the A pillar
and a manual boost controller installed
and a 12v charging point in the tuffy console, so you can leave your phone/gps/tablet plugged in but locked up.

more details/info

i'm guessing that a ring cracked
it still runs, I was doing freeway speeds but seeing egts climbing and feeling sluggish
pulled over to a gas station for fuel and saw that the oil was 4 quarts low

the oil was blowing out from high valve cover pressure, related to the ring(s) failure
with the oil cap off, there is a very visible, puff of high pressure that is regular, hence my assumption that it is one cylinder.

I replaced the BEB just a few thousand miles ago

i don't know if this will load or not. Video of the truck in Moab

Mileage:
15 mpg driving from the Bay Area to Lake Tahoe (6,000ft of elevation gain) with a bike on the back and junk on the roofrack, passing people uphill, most of the way.
17-18 for "normal average",
22 if I was really careful.

also notable: I installed electric seat heaters last year. That's a really nice thing to have. both front seats.

Shot you an email

if there a lift on this vehicle and if yes how much. i am looking for a vehicle to import into Canada and they have restrictions on lifts.
