Mo is twenty this year and I figured that I have the rest of the year to get all this together and make it happen. Now these items are not set in stone. The reason I'm posting is for constructive criticism. I do plan on doing this right
(and right the first time) and no stone will be left unturned while doing this project( even if it does take the rest of the year). Some things I still haven't decided on
1. shocks and shock brand
2. tire size....I'm thinking 37's( JP how do you like your 62 on 37's???)

If anything is missing please let me know so I can keep track to add on and take off. Also keep in mind that this is a list i created for my 62, by no means is this going to be thrifty route to a SO.

Items

1. (1) 4x4labs High Steering Arms and Kit

2. (1) CruiserOutfitters rotated front axle housing

3. (2) CruiserOutfitters heavy duty spring perches( 2 per kit)

4. (2) Cruiser Outfitters Energy Suspension Bushings

5. (2) Cruiser Outfitters U-bolts(4 per axle)

6. (1) Cruiser Outfitters axle rebuild kit w/wheel bearings

7. (1) Longfield (birfield) joints( four pieces)

8. (1) OME greaseable shackles front

9. (1) OME greasable shackles rear

10. (2) OME spring pins

11. (2) 4.88 Sierra gears

12. (1) ring and pinion install kit

13. (2) Shock towers

14. (2) shock tabs

Ballpark figure of this SOA is 3300.00. That includes shipping on all parts. That however does not include the wonderous wheels and tires.:frown: Anyway just putting this info out there so I can get some help. The parts collecting will commence next month. WHOOPTY WOOP!

matt I think the 37's are perfect for the 62........ if you go any bigger than those you might have to do some fender trimming, the wheel wells just aren't big enough especially the rear

good luck

I'm still debating doing a SOA to mine or go the lift kit route.... although i will have to go "thrifty"... good luck to you

It is very nice to be able to order alot of things from one place. (And Kurt is a good guy.) However, you can say that you will save alot of $ by getting club members to help out and shopping around!

I saved tons of $ when I did my Alcan lift by shopping around.

-You also forgot to put down are rims (You will need wider and also less BS so your stance will be better.) and a track bar.
-You dont need longs unless you are putting in a locker up front. That should save you $660 +. If you do go SOA I would say at least get 35's on it and a rear locker.

-- 4.88's in my opinion are not low enough if you are going with 37's and keeping the 3fe and the auto, but thats just me. If you change over to something else (double TC, different tranny, etc.)

IMHO I think that its rather important to have more than a stock truck that has been SOA. If you have a truck that big and you are wheeling with someone other than the club then they probably cant get you out (I was dragging a TJ trying to pull me out and I certainly dotn have 37's.)
- I would say consider a winch as a minimum and depending on the condition of your body some protection as well. You SOA will get you into alot mor etrouble than a stock truck.

Lockers, protection, and a winch are going to be "stage two", right now I'm just working on getting the "basics" of a SO.

I'll add the track bar to the list.

I also haven't really thought about brakes......back to the 60/62 thread for more studying.:D

Depending on the wheels you go with, consider wheel spacers as well. If you are going that far up you'll want to go out a little too. Maybe 1.5" rear spacers and IFS hubs up front. Brakes are always a good idea, especially with tires that size. 4runner calipers and rear discs would be good. Don't forget extended brake lines and axle breathers as well.

Also,

Ask JP about the 4x4 labs HS. I think he had issues with it hitting his oil pan???

If you are going into the front axle that is the time to do the front locker. You dont want to have to pull it back appart to do that again. (This is a big decision as longs are in order if you get a front locker.)

If you go 4runner calipers you will want to go with a larger Master Cylinder as well. (Trying to get this mods done now.)

I haven't even started and this project is snowballing.

I don't think you're list is snowballing at all - just being refined, no worries:

1) Gears - on the link that Marshall provides above see posts 52, 53, 55 and 56. I'm getting conflicting opinions - but so far am sticking with my transformation to 4.11 fine splines (versus course) and calling it good. New 4.88's and setups was gonna cost me $600.
2) TractION bar - don't do a tract bar, do a proper traction bar (aka ladder bar or two point across the top tube) - Marshall can tell you my horror story. Whatever you do, do this right, even if it's cheap like Marshalls.
3) Shocks - Rancho 9,000's are a good compromise or Bilsteins. If you have the bling get something that can be adjusted stiffer for street driving if you run an aggressive tire.
4) I used 4+ perches due to the 3 holes being predrilled.
5) Use Ford shock towers if possible - I have the 4+ and they're very very nice, but damn that was a hard hit to the wallet.
6) Shackle reversal - do it now, it's easy all considered (another reason for good stiff adjustable shocks to control brake dive).
7a) I would do a front ARB before Longs - everybody should break several birfs before they decide on longs - takes a lot of tire, traction and weight to really justify - at 37's you'll do fine for a few years - just carry spares.
7b) If you do go with Longs, don't worry about pulling the diff. at a later time to install a locker - assembly/disassembly is just about 3 hours - no biggie - heck I did this in Jim's driveway in SC a few years back just to replace some busted lock right pins while everybody drank beer and watched me suffer :D.

Just keep tweaking the list - you can wittle that price way down and get the lift/performance to match you driving/wheeling needs and maybe even get a locker and some sliders done at the same time.

All in all, I too would shop around a little bit - but I did get my cut and turned axle housing from Kurt, and he's a first class resource on the Pirate board. Like their service.

Also,

Ask JP about the 4x4 labs HS. I think he had issues with it hitting his oil pan???

yes if you got with 4x4 lab arms you will have to trim up your oil pan.... it is no biggie but just something else to consider

Also as Bill says a LADDER BAR is a must...... asking me how I know

Ladder bar and shocks....right JP? :)

Axle wrap is a myth I tell ya!

Axle wrap is a myth I tell ya!

Will take that sarcasm and raise you the 3 busted pinions I have sitting on the workbench here :flipoff2:. I wouldn't trade those for your rear axle delimma thought...

My truck is running! :)

Hey Matt, Bill and JP and Marshall are your guys for spring over info....Take Bills advice too about just being refined and you'll have no problem....PM these 3 guys and ask anything you need to...with there 3 brains together they'll help you with your questions. Good Luck

Thanks for the info fellers. I collectively appericate all your minds coming together and lending me a hand at making decisions. I'll keep everyone on the "up and up" as my parts collection begins. Thanks again!

Matt J
