Don't get the black projector housings because they are crappy!

If you have the $$$ for getting good HID (bi-xenon) projectors, then do it right the first time and you would be much happier!

Taking the lense and the housing apart is fairly simple as many have done it for various vehicles. You can search the Net and it'll tell you to use the oven or heating gun to do it. You put them back together the same way.

I did work my way through that big thread about those projector housings but what is it exactly that is bad? I currently run the standard(aus) dual semi-sealed beams and they're crappy, the beam is good but the light output(especially low beam) leaves much to be desired.

I don't really have the funds nor the interest to do a HID projector project at the moment, plus its quite hard to do it legally in Australia as far as i'm aware.

How hard was it to pull the depo casing's apart and paint them? How did you put them back together?

I'm tossing up either getting some depo's and blacking them to match the rest of the front(similar to yours actually) or getting a pair of the black projector(a little ricer) housings.

I found the magic recipe was an oven at 250 for 8 mins 3X's.... Meaning bring the oven up to 250, place the lights in the oven on a baking sheet on a wet towel glass side down for 8mins. Remove and use a butter knife, work fast with light pressure all the way around the light, then back in the oven, and repeat after another 8mins. I did this three times on each light, by the third pass the lens just pops right off.

Same process for putting back together, back in the oven 250 3X's only pressing it further and further. Glass side up this time. Final seal with a good silicone.

Probably should bring this one back to the front of the line as several of us have been visited by UPS recently. AMMO, thanks for bringing this one to us, absolutely choice! I just installed my Depo headlights with HID bulbs in about 30 minutes. I haven't felt like this since I cheated on a government exam in 10th grade, too easy. Now, hopefully the beam wont look totally berserk and I can aim them when it gets dark.

I have the chrome version and installed the HID's in the low and high beam myself. The light output on my 80 is very intense and is an upgrade I would highly recommend. I actually have a pair of Lexus projectors sitting in my attic that I do not find necessary to install in place of the projectors that came with my Sonar's.

I would like to put my 80 next to a DEPO HID just to compare but I don't think anyone in the CC has them in such a configuration. As a general rule, projector beams will project a better, more focused patterned when compared to reflector lenses.

Agreed, in fact I have another set of Depo's on the way (maybe) that will be retro-fitted with FXR projectors

I just got the Depos thinking they were plug and play OEM (which the auction said they were) and now I have to do plan B, which may be the retro which inspired this thread. Thanks.

The FX-R's are exactly what I had in mind, I have to learn how the switching works to wire it, 12volt electrical has always made me a little nervous. As far as blinding people is concerned they are actually lower than it appears, at least I haven't been flashed yet.

Mine looked nothing like anyone else has posted. I can't believe yall are able to drive around with that. Do you not get flashed all the time?

Yours looks perfect, time to get a username @ HID Planet and go to University. The highbeam solenoid wiring is where I'm a little fuzzy, a link or two to get me started would be really helpful.

The wiring of the high beams is easy. When you order the kit for the projectors it comes with a plug that goes to the harness on the projector. Then you just wire it straight into the factory high beam wires.
