To something that didn't say land cruiser in it would you have an issue with the name change? Something that would make all Toyota 4x4 owners feel welcome.

Do you think a name change would draw more members for the national club?
How do you think people would react to coming to events?

Comments?

i personally dont really have a problem with it, bc there are plenty of 4runners and taco's that wheel with us anyways and we always have had a good time. I could see other people out there losing sleep over this though.

They'd probably gain more non-cruiser members than they'd lose cruiser members, but they'd definitely lose some cruiser members in the process. Certainly won't get more to join.

I personally wouldn't have any problem with it though and took the gamble they'd be around for a while and paid up for 2 years.

It wouldn't have the ring, but I don't care... Have had truck, 4runner, LC's and FJC. Next new car will be the new 4Runner, trail edition...drove one the other day and loved it!

Well if you take out the word "LandCruiser" it wouldn't be a LandCruiser Club anymore would it?

To me it seems a little absurd to tarnish/abandon a 30 year tradition for the purpose of appeasing non-LandCruiser members or in an attempt to bring in more revenue.... Also it is a special breed of people who own LandCruisers especially the older 40's, 55's, 60's. It take a true love amd dedication to these vehicles to keep them alive and on the road; and I think it would be a disservice to the owners to just "lump" them in with every other Toyota 4x4 owner out there....... but hey that is just my opinion and I addmittedly have a soft spot for tradition/history and never have been much of an appeaser.

opinion aside I do think you could possibly draw more members and attendies with a name change, but you would likely lose the more traditionalist mind members like myself, as I would surely drop my member ship if it changed. Just as I would do the same if Upsate Cruisers decided to drop "cruisers" from its' name if favor of a more appeasing Upsate Toyota 4x4's or what have you........ there are endless 4x4 clubs out there that cater to Toyota 4x4's but there is only one that specifically seeks out and honors LandCruisers and their owners; why do away with that?

heck if you just want to boost enrollment or get more attendies at events just put "Jeep" in the title

I have to say I miss the old days of the "newsletter" mags of Gary.
Cruisers and nuttin' but Cruisers. Man, back then it was almost a cult.
Very exclusive.
I've slowly lost interest in the club scene as the exclusive nature has morphed into
whatever the heck it has turned into.
Call me a snob if you like, but it's Land Cruisers I love. Period.
Well...Cruisers and Austin Healeys.
Heck I can barely tolerate the wife's MGB.
I remember when the 60s were looked on with some disdain by the those
of the true faith. Tis a slippery slope and we've slid to this.
For me something has been lost in the translation of what a Cruiser club should be.
I'm habitually a non-joiner, a hermit by nature, and it was the companionship
of fellow nuts who were dedicated to to the preservation of cruisers that pulled me
out of the cave. Three decades of devotion and counting.
I'm back in the cave nowadays. I'm waiting on the faithful to come to their senses.

Concur with the points from JP.
Plus I see a few other key parameters here
1) The Land Cruiser reputation for tough reliable performance is the foundation which all the Toyota 4x4 vehicles trace their success to.
2) The Land Cruiser name and persona is the major draw. Look at the FJ cruisers. They are not Land Cruisers, but they combine some styling and name elements from the 40 series, but leverage hardware/components from the other Toyota 4x4 product lines to yield a good vehicle that was a success for Toyota and respected by the community. At the end of the day, the selling power of the Land Cruiser name was what enabled the FJ cruiser to go from dream to road.
3) I have always seen the TLCA to be very open and inviting to the entire Toyota 4x4 product line. I was not around at the time, but I bet that pickup truck owners and then 4runner owners asked the TLCA if they could join (rather than the TLCA seeking them out).

Is there a serious effort to change the name of the organization?

I agree with Larry. Me and Kitty were discussing this last night. Basically, you can trace the success of every Toyota 4x4 back to the foundation of Land Cruisers. The name honors the history, tradition and reputation of LC's. I think everyone knows that TLCA membership is open to other models - heck even our by-laws mention something about off brand trucks allowed into the membership (a la Bertha).

From a marketing standpoint I don't see any advantage in changing the club's name. They will piss off the die-hards and the new membership potential won't increase. TLCA has their heritage and reputation wrapped up in this brand. You don't see Donald Trump changing his hairstyle because folks think its ugly. Like him or hate him, he has a brand and it works for him.

Why change a good thing. I do not drive a Land Cruser and it does not bother me. TLCA rolls nicely off your tongue.
