So I think the Michelin Defender is the perfect all-terrain tire... (For most of us) (25 Viewers)

Interestingly the discount tire website show these as SL but they had the same part number as the XL which is what I wanted. Discount Tire had a promotion which is why I took the chance. They were installed today and are confirmed XL.

any rubbing??

haha is that tony montero? love Glucker and that truck
I’ve owned many Mitsubishis before. I drive a lot per year (around 30k mile) so wanted to go with one of the cheapest PHEVs I can find and the Mitsu fit that need.

I also shot press photos for the outlander when the refresh came out and was pleasantly surprised by it

But I miss my 200 very much and plan to buy a late model year LX in a few years againView attachment 3635398

I just got the Defender LTX Platinum in 295/65r20 out on my F350 today, and thought some of the defender LTX fans in here might want to see it. It only comes in 20s right now though. There are water channels that run under the treads, it’s a really interesting design. They look better in person than I thought they would. Sorry I’m not posting my Land Cruiser, it has Toyos on it for now

Really interesting design. Please post with feedback when you get some miles in the rain/snow/mud

Super interesting. Hadn't seen anything like that before.

The size is pretty awesome too and has good potential to drop onto an LX with just a weekends worth of work. I'm looking to keep two wheelsets going forward and this size might be the ticket for a wheelset that is focused on commuting, roadtrips, and towing. Then another more aggressive set for adventure travel.

Decisions decisions. I might be really inclined if I can find an OEM take-off set for cheap as truck guys like their truck tires more aggressive.

I will! We are full time in the fifth wheel right now so we should see a decent amount of time off pavement on dirt, mud, gravel, etc., in campgrounds when we start hitting the road again in September.

The size is great. It drops straight in on the super duty (and fairly easy for the LX from what I have read), and makes the 285/70r17s on the Land Cruiser next to it look tiny. I am planning to do something about that soon.. In this size they are load index 129 as well, which gives me some peace of mind for the fifth wheel. Two wheel sets would be great. I had KO3s for about a month on here, but I felt there were too many compromises for daily use and towing. They also never really balanced well

They really need to come out with some of those Defender Platinums on 18” rims. I like the sidewall design and I would have to imagine the ride is comfortable and long lasting on a set of Michelins.

That tread edge has the potential to be good in sand. But, Michelin thinks very highly of that tire at $506 each!

Most tires in the sizes are in the mid to high 400s, so it’s not significantly more than other options. But yes they certainly are spendy, one of the cons of 20s

Can you post a pic of the entire vehicle? Looks like I have the same truck and am looking at the same tire!

Glad I found this thread. I’ve loved the LTX since my 80 days. But I’m in a pickle. On my new to me HE, (stock) there are defender LTX M/S 285/60/18s in good shape (so they will last quite a while). This set is underwhelmingly small and leaves a lot of wheel well. I know I can go to LTX ms2 in a 65, but $1600ish for ~1” is hard to justify. What would be required from a mod perspective to slap the 295/70/18s on there? Impossible with KDSS? I’m good with a dremel. Thanks all!

I've been waiting on someone to try them:) should be minor KDSS rub at full lock provided you have the right offset or spacers

Stock setup with HE rims. Would I need spacers? I’ll gladly be the Guinea Pig.
yes. 1.25" and trimming most likely. Can read through this if you haven't already

I don’t think anyone has tried Michelin 295s, so I’ve wondered if the less aggressive tread style and tread width might work in their favor for stock wheels. Most of the 295s on here are Toyo AT or Nitto Grappler. Go for it!

One member did but he has the tundra conversion.

I have a 2016 LX with the factory 21’s, and do about 30,000km a year on a commute from country to city (3 hr drive down then 3hr drive back, once a week). And while this car does seem a strange choice fuel wise for so many km, it’s so goddam comfortable and capable I think it’s worth the compromise.

I love the idea of these tyres, as the only off reading I do is launching a boat and sand / beach driving every other week. Nothing serious at all. I’ve only had the car a month or so, haven’t taken it on the sand yet.

Do they make them for 21’s? Will I be able to air down these rims / tyres to 18psi?

Otherwise I’m thinking I’ll have to get some 18’s with some more side wall, and these defenders will get a run. I love the idea of some more softer riding tyres with more sidewall, which are also more capable in sand.
