Ice caves are in El Malpias south of Grants. If we go to the ice caves I'll take people to a WWII airaplane crash site.

Any snow?

Greg - You are welcome to ride along with us as well.

You better jump on this opportunity Greg. Evan's 80 is set up really well. We just need him to get a decent 2M radio and he'll be ready for anything. ;)

Anybody up north wanting to go? Did anybody hear from newmexicokid from Gallup?

What Evan and Greg said. Sometimes the people who answer the phones never even go into the field, despite their fancy title.

the Zunis might be fun too: I saw some pretty cool muddin coming out of a wildland fire down there once it started raining, and we had to leave a brush truck in the ditch til the next day. (yes, it was That Stuck, and That Dark). not as steep as Mt T, but some good two-track.

Pix for those who don't go?

I'm still game for going. Especially with Evan, Jon and Steve going with their experience and equipment. From what I saw on the various maps I looked at online, we have plenty of options. The reports of 'impassable' might be exaggerated. The guy I talked to seemed very friendly and actually encouraged us to come out and take advantage of the resources available to us in that district. I explained to him who we were (HDC, TLCA) and our support of the Blue Ribbon Coalition (as an example of our responsible use of OHV). He was familiar with BRC and I didn't get any impression he had negative opinions of it or us.

It sounds like they are a lot further behind on their Travel Management stuff than Sante Fe NF seems to be. He seemed very unhappy about having to meet the terms of the rule and he's one of the primary people involved with the defining of the travel routes. I think he might be a good resource and possibly even an ally. Maybe this area will turn out to have some decent and numerous trails. There's lots of NF and BLM land around there.

Hey guys -

I am bowing out. It sounds like a blast, but I'm concerned about being able to get home afterwards.

I spoke with Shawn on the phone during the meeting tonight (I wasn't able to make it) to let him know about the winter storm warning for most of western and northern NM. They are talking about a big storm coming through that will start tomorrow and carry on through Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

If you do still decide to go, check the weather first and be careful out there. I will probably go get some diesel fuel first thing in the morning, so I've got the tractor ready to plow our road.

Sorry about that - I hope to be able to make the next snow run.

Evan

The forecast I saw was for up to an inch in Grants tomorrow, with most of the storm hitting Monday and Tuesday. We will meet at Rio Puerco and I-40 (MP ~140, gas station on the right, right after the exit) at 9:00, then at the intersection of SR9 and I-40 (MP ~127) at about 9:15, then we'll be heading up SR 547 out of Grants about 10:30 after gassing up. I'll have my cellphone on - 980-0303, and we'll be on CB channel 40 and Ham 164.460. We'll head for the rim of Mt Taylor :p

Did you mean 146.460?

I will be out in the garage most of the day cleaning drive shafts, rebuilding brake calipers, and getting things ready for next weekend. I will monitor the Mega-Link and 146.460.

Sorry I missed the meeting tonight. I lost my hall pass when my son Kevin came over and the family wanted to go to the movies.

Sorry - yep... 146.460 It was my dylsexia comgin out.

We're still going. Steve, I'll try to meet you at the Puerco gas station you are referring to at ~mp140. My cell #'s are 292-0636 and 321-0235. I'll have the CB on 40 as well.

Greg - Did you get a ride for this? I'd offer but the kids' car-seats take up too much space in the back seat so you'd have to ride in the cargo space in the back with the sleds.

Great news looks like it's still a "go", see you guys in the morning. Steve I will give you a call in the morning, but I still plan on meeting you all at I-40 and NM-6.

well...

I thought it was an isolated event, but...

The 80 is hassling me again.

This time with intermittent starts. Dr. Ali diagnosed a starter issue, and offered his gurney and spare parts. So tomorrow instead of enjoying the snow, I will be performing surgery.

Enjoy the snow for me, and don't leave any 62's stranded

Sorry folks but I'm going to cancel out on this one. The reason is not the snow, but the wind. It will be twice as strong in the mountains as in Grants, and it's going to be bad in Grants.

Others can go if they want, but I doubt if it'll be much fun...

I'm still going, even if all we do go to the lava tubes or find some snowy hills to play on. I hope to see someone at the "Puerco" gas station at 9. Pick up Jack at 9:15-9:30.

I'm with Steve - doesn't sound like weather I want to out in by choice. Y'all have fun.
