I could benefit from a snorkel. I was in this exact situation not too long ago. Note to self: quit showing off :grinpimp:

Plus, I usually take up the rear in a line while wheeling, so I tend to eat a lot of dust... My handle on the CB is "Caboose" :o

BTW... I made it trough without any problems . There were 23 river crossings which I believe this was one of the worst. For the electrical... lots of WD40 and marine grease. Only damage was a blown rear axle seal which is getting fixed tomorrow:D

I've got to disagree--- there were many many thousands of miles/km conquered by Land Cruisers before lockers were widely available. One trip on a trail that does need lockers is enough to make someone think that they need 'em. So be it. It just goes to prove my theory. If you have to ask "do I need lockers?" then you don't need them.

All the deep water crossings without snorkels also show that you can go a long way into deep water without a snorkel. If you find yourself doing it more than once in a blue moon, you're bound to think "Hey, I need to get a snorkel". If you don't wheel that way or in those places, you might not need a snorkel.

If anyone does "any" off roading and don't know if you need lockers...they'll find out the hard way. As far as the snorkle, as mentioned a few times, the water crossings are only one of many reasons...and probably far down the list for the vast majority of buyers.

Thanks to this thread I was reminded of my clogged filter and I'm going to place an order for one first thing Monday....

My scangauge intake air temperatures have been up as high as 160 F, even when ambient is only in the 80s. Engines don't like running on hot air, and snorkles should help that, along with keeping the dust out, especially with a precleaner.

Unfortunately, my chick doesn't dig snorkels at all, and so I'm going to have to do a pretty good job of convincing her to get one.

BTW, are ALL OEM 80 series air filters washable?

:)

i brought an 80 home yesterday. it has a snorkel. when we got home i ask my fiance, " pretty hapy with the new truck huh?"

her reply, " i love it, except for that snorkel thing, it is ridiculous."

me: it's on there for good hon, there's a big hole in the fender where it's attached.

her: damnit.

me: ;p

add my wife to the list of snorkel haters. She says it looks rediculous and says its embarassing when she is driving it. Makes me love having it even more!! For me, its more about the looks than the purpose. Cleaner air, deep water crossing, sure, but I dont ever plan on submerging my truck that deep. Cleaner air is just a bonus of the way it looks. I'll never tire of all the people looking at it when I drive around town. "hey dude, where can I get one of them amphibious kits like yours?" (comment by a gas station attendant in either Monticello or Banning UT on the way to Moab)

Went to a trail near Buena Vista Colorado with the club today called Chinamans Gulch

Ige and I are at a Gas Station next to each other filling up our 80's with Gas before the run when this lady comes up and asks "whats the snorkel for?" Ige just smiles and shakes her head. Her 80 has a snorkel too.

Classic LOL

I'm in California and had a GUY!! comes up to me and asks what that thing poking up was for.......I couldn't resist:hhmm:, I told him it was a governmental experament for testing smog at roof top levels. My wife about fell over sideways laughing. He thought I was serious, I had to tell him the truth, it wasn't right leaving a man like that unedumacated about snorkels and how they are chick magnets. By the way, my :princess: hates it, it gets in the way of her taking pictures.:bang: Bah Humbug.
