Nice Kris! Looking good. I want to take a good look at it in July when I visit since I will be installing the one Bill sent me later this summer.

Thank you! I'm glad you got it installed. Something that may help a little bit on the belts is to remove the idler pulley (one bolt). Then reinstall it after the belts are on the alternator pulley but before tensioning the belts, or some just leave it off.

Removing it certainly helped and since I pulled the entire alt bracket off to clean it up there one less thing to smack my knuckles on.

Lookin' forward to a visitor.

for me the easiest way to install the 150amp ALT was by removing the oil filter and moving the PS hoses out of the way.. This gives you so much room to position the alternator. Been working awesome since I installed new alt and upgraded charging and ground cables.

This is correct! :wrench:

This would save me from having to boost the idle by hand while airing up when I want to get the compressor to run a little faster. Plus a lot of my driving is 5 and 10 minute trips - almost never exceeding 30. What I do now is throw the battery on a trickle charge periodically to top it off on one of those smart chargers as a way of compensating. This pulley sounds like something I could use. Problem is I've got a lot of money laid out on other stuff for the 80. But when that's over...

As for the idler pulley, mine was frozen up and I kept hearing this grumbling sound from the front when I let off the gas.

For what it is worth I tried to get some output amp numbers for those that have the 150 amp Sequoia alternator upgrade with small pulley. To the best of my understanding this is a way to get some output amp numbers from any alternator. The test calls for engine rpm's at 2000 and putting an electrical load on the system to bring the voltage down to 12.5. Temperature etc can affect the test and it is important not to drop the voltage down below 12.5 and alter/skew the results. The first picture shows the Sequoia alternator output 161.1 amps at 2000 rpm's. I tried to include the load tester in the picture to show the voltage on the right.

I then did the same test at idle and got 95.9 amps at 650 rpm's.

I set the engine rpm's a little higher and got 129.2 amps at 1000 rpm's.

For a real world test I connected a Warn 10000 lb winch up to pull my skidsteer which was frozen to the ground and got an alternator output of 158.7 amps at 2000 rpm's. Sorry for the blurry picture. Things were moving. ;)

The last picture is how alternator output can be affected by pulling the voltage down below 12.5 volts. Note the 450 amp load and voltage of about 9. This was at idle and was 117.9 amps at 650 rpm's.

Excellent testing and result Bill..

Thanks again for confirming that this is a great MOD for our cruisers...

i could be keen on a bracket and alternator pulley, only problem is i got no idea what a tundra or sequoia is, is it a Hilux?

I have a few right now. PM me please for the details.

Bill

So no hope for the 3FE alternator pulley? I am thinking of taking my pulley to a machine shop to get turned down a little but would rather support a Mudder if I can.

Hi Bill
I have a 1fe motor i upgraded my internal alternator that require a higher speed to be at stable 13.5 volt at idle.
Gonna need to your smaller pulley.
I wonder if its still available? Can you ship to to canada too? How much will cost me in $ usd?
Thanks

I do still make the smaller pulley for the 130/150 amp Tundra/Sequoia, or the stock 80 1fz-fe alternator. I am not sure what the alternator shaft size is; or the belt size is on the 1fe engine so don't know if it would work with the smaller pulley.

Just PM you on the pulley. Would like to ourchase it for my stock 96 alternator.

PM replied to.
