Sorry Steve - my Techs Manual only goes back as far as 1974 for Chevy/GMC trucks. The SM465 takes 8.0 pints of gear oil!

Alan

Need drain and refill my tranny due to a transfer that likes to fill it up for me
That factory fill plug is in a pretty inconvenient spot...

Poser said:The other fun thing that I have learned is that somewhere during the run of SM420 transmissions, the top covers changed. Charlie G. was talking to me for a while the other night, and mentioned this...which maked sense, as Jim V and I have the same issue with these 420's sticking in third gear occasionally, and mine will kick out of second under acceleration somewhat regularly. I have at least two more 420's...and think I know where a few more are...I would like to find a later trans top cover (most likely the 65-67 era units) to try and prove some of these theories, but I am not holding out much hope for finding one.
