Took the advise of my MUD buddies and reworked the spring perches. Heated and bent back as best I could then welded a 1/4" plate over the top, not too bad. Took advantage of the rear axle out and dropped the tank, the float stopped working right away, found the float at the bottom of the tank broken off, so I went with another type float ( Thanks J Mack! ) I had to drain thirty gallons of fuel, that was exciting. I'm staying with the Chevy pump as it has been working great.

With the perches reworked, I went with 5/8ths u-bolts and hardware. I had a u-bolt flip kit on it before and wanted to go back to stock position, bolts pointing down, it's easier to tighten stretchy nuts. I had to repurpose the top plate and make some shock hangers, so I could use it on the bottom.

Anyway, moving forward and thinking about making CruiserFest!

I think the bracket broke that held the float arm. I found the whole arm and float at the bottom of the tank when I drained it.

Correct. The arm just fell off. I can look tomorrow, but I think the plastic clip part broke.

Got the new rear springs back on and put 10 gallons of fuel in the tank, the gauge is working! Drove 4 miles to the gas station and put another 49 gallons of fuel in the tank. :jawdrop: I thought it was a 50 gallon tank, never heard of a 60. Anyway, here's some pictures with a tool box, full fuel tank and 100 pounds of feed in the back. Roughly 500 to 600 pounds extra weight. The rear bumper was at 21" before, with the new leaves added it was 25" and now with the extra weight right at 23 1/4" high.

Love that truck :)

Thanks Guys,

Rides nice, Bob. I wanted it to handle our camping gear, etc. and not bottom out, which happened to us in Utah. I'm a poor judge of ride quality though, always had a one ton or bigger for trucks. I was worried it would have too much of a rake, but I can live with the way it is.

The spring packs are OME and I added two custom made leaves to each side for a total of 9 or 10 leaves.

Ask your wife how the ride is, she might be a better judge.

Pablo,

To be honest, she'd be happy to ride on a buck board if it meant we were traveling.

Well Guys, the plans have changed. I couldn't get in at Cruiser Outfitters until mid October to do the cut and turn, so driving out to Cruiserfest is out, which is in Salt Lake City also. We're packed and heading out to Wyoming in the morning for a couple weeks. Tent camping and just exploring dirt roads. I changed out the front u bolts for 5/8 bolts and put 6 degree shims in place of the 4 degree I had in. She drives perfect now, no wondering, etc.

The spring shop said to torque the nuts to 177 ft./lb. and I shouldn't have to worry about the dreaded "stretchy nut syndrome".

J Mack, I used the long ratchet with a cheater bar and put the smoke to them. I'll take some pictures and post up when we get home.

Talk to you guys in two weeks. She's packed tight! :)

If you need anything in Colorado let me know and if you swing through, I'll buy you a beer!

I figured a few beers is worth the price of admission to see this work of art...
