My theory is that the baghdad battery was invented for plating. if I'm right, it would have to be one of the oldest technologies. anodes and cathodes. ha. I can't remember which is positive; which is ok- seems fitting for a color blind electrician we have the means at our fingertips, whereas, the inventors had to, well, invent it. alot of thought had to go into it. kinda like workin on pigs. technology born of necessity

You could also try electrolytic rust removal, it's going to remove some of the metal though (just what the rust has eaten). Here's my homemade setup:

Along with my new scuff plates, BobM sent me his new addition to his evergrowing lineup....a shop sign every pig owner should have in their pigpen!

I'm not a good photographer, took me a dozen trys to get these. Shiny brushed aluminium and flashes don't mix.

I don't have alot of wall space left, but I think it looks great right there.

I use a piece of 16ga. sheet metal bent in an "L" shape under the item and hang the item with wire or a long bolt/nut depending on what I'm de-rusting. Positive goes to the sheet metal and negative to the item (make sure it's a clean metal connection), I use the 10amp setting on my charger

Haven't got alot to talk about, still having babies. I did buy a sand blast cabinet and working out the water filter system.

Still on the winch rebuild, I stole a improvement idea from Island45 and CruiserBrett. Gearbox supports, got the front done and working on the rears. I didn't have any of the mounting angle bars either, so I had to make them and the brake handle bracket.

Alot of work in a little package!

Sandblasting cabinet! Man, I'm jealous. There's so much instant gratification there.

Next time I'm going through a pile of sanding discs and wire wheels, I'll be dreaming of your cabinet.

I know, used the one at work for years, now that I'm retired and this deal came up , well that's my story anyhow. Had to jump on it.

just have to be careful about what you get. i had a harbor freight cabinet that was absolute crap. more sand went out the "glass" because of the poor design than anywhere else. i use the one at work for small stuff. for larger stuff, i have a my "portable blast booth"

That's what I'm thinking. My cabinet isn't a high dollar one, but I hope alittle better than the worst. We'll see, still building the vacuum system.

Got some weekend work in. Still alot to do with the pto driveshaft mounting, but coming along.

Mounted the mandatory tow hooks. Need to start thinking about a front bumper. I figure six months to build that.

That's purty Ron. Which bumper style/idea are you looking at building? Are you going to have to trim down the angle iron for winch line clearance?

Shouldn't be any clearance issues, once the fairlead rollers get mounted. I believe that angle is the same as a stock one, or close anyway. The wire rope feeds in over the top of the drum.

I'm not sure on a front bumper yet. Going to try to make it stockish looking, but beefier. I would like to make some kind of grill protection, though. Guess I better focus on getting it running first.

Gotcha on clearance.. I bounce all over the place during builds. Seems fab is always one of my first things to do and last to install of course. So, I'm biting my tongue and slapping my hands on Hamp right now..

Hurry up and wait! Fairlead rollers are getting cadmium plated, so I finished up the driveshaft shortening and mounting. Seems to be out of the way of the exhaust pipes, we'll see.

Next up, brake and fuel lines. Just got delivered today, Mastercool flare tool. Brake lines and fittings should be here Monday.
