Was rereading your thread from the beginning and was looking at your twin stick setup- trany/transfer. Why did you use that everses the stock set up with the single stick?

Two reasons as I recall, first I didn't have the stock shifter with the parts I bought originally and with the twin sticks you can use two wheel low or high. I haven't found a need for two wheel drive low yet, but at least I have it, just in case. :)

Great looking pig
What tires are those. Stock rims??

Thanks Guys, I always appreciate your comments. The tires are 255/85/16 B. F. Goodrich MTs and the wheels I had made at Stockton Wheel.

Hey Bob, you ever drive up the Mt. Washington road? Looks like one heck of a view.

I was saying earlier when we were talking about this that I have a set I would lend you...

Pig projects are taking a backseat at the moment and I don’t know when I’ll get back to making lenses at the rate other projects are stacking up, I offered to buy Ron’s lenses and put them on the shelf so when and if the time comes I had a set to work with without the worry of holding someone’s unobtainable parts hostage.

Jim,

Better they sit on your shelf than mine, at least maybe something good will come of them with you. Send your address.

After spending way too much time on this, I've got a tailgate window working without a lot of gear noise. I played with three different motors, but only had the one brass gear ready, I'll need to machine the new one down later. One of the motors ran noticeably slower on the down stroke and this was without the window installed. The last thing I tried was different grease and that worked. I was using Super Lube originally and switched to a German silicone based grease made for bearings, etc. It is a heavier grease than the Super Lube. It seems like the white Lithium base grease, that was in all the gears, tends to harden over time. Hopefully this new grease holds up and doesn't get hard.

I also hooked up the little lever that stops the tailgate handle from working with the window up. It's really the only lock on the tailgate. I don't have the safety switch in, but wanted some way of stopping someone from just opening the gate. Not sure if it's the exact way it came from the factory, but it works!

I am having a hard time trying to get the motor out. Does it all come out? I need to get the window down so I can get the rear door open. Any hints? Any help out there would be great!

Mookkidzz,

If you haven't read this thread already try it, might help...Rear window article available from Gary S

Does the window motor run or just a click? If clicking, could be a bad ground. To answer one if your problems, yes everything has to come out in order to get to the motor. The two little clips hold the arms to the window track, they slide off, then you can wiggle the arms and motor out of the cavity, after disconnecting all wires and rods.

Good luck with it and don't forget the bandaids! :)

I need some opinions/thoughts on my skid plate. Making a skid plate for the fuel tank and I'm thinking it should have some drain holes, is this an acceptable idea or bad for some reason. Something on this line where the four discs are, that will be the low point. Big holes or small?

I'm getting ready to replace the rear axle and set the frame on cribbing, but she was a little rocky, so I added some ballast to the front, all I could think of @ 700 pounds of it! :hillbilly:

I've been wanting to change my filler neck to a modern screw in type cap in order to stop fuel leaking out the old cap. I bought a 2" cab chassis filler neck and modified it to work on the 55. I had to cut and reweld the mounting ring at the right angle with welded 6mm nuts, a little bit of work, but in the end everything worked good.

Here's the final product..

My tank has only one overfill inlet, so the new neck works out good. Hopefully that stops fuel leaking out the cap when full.

Oh man, I know it. I've got a whole page of things to do. Winter is a good time for me to hide in the shop, turn up the music and get at it. My wife has got the maps out already! :)

Thanks Jim, that's what I needed to hear. Mine's not uhmw, but 3/16 steel should hold up, heavy though.
