Been working on this but not posting. Got all the panels finished then added an under dash 5x7 speaker in the stock location and swapped out the modernish CD player for one of the more 80’s ish looking Continental units. Then been driving it.

Stopped by Torfab today.

A couple hours later and it’s looking much better! Just measured for shocks and ordered some bilsteins. Sits a touch high in the rear but I plan on a tire carrier so not worried at the moment. Now off to find some 33” Kenda Klever RT’s

Shocks are on. Only a few miles so far and a little driving I. The pasture but I’m really happy with this combo.

This rear brake line isn’t going to cut it…. This is with about 300 pounds worth of tires in the back. Luckily, I already ordered a longer one and got it installed.

Tires should get installed next week; 33x9.5 Kenda Klever RT’s.

Then I need to address this t-case leak. Seems to lose fluid about as fast as I put it in.

I’m moving to the other side of the state this weekend. Might as well start an in depth project.

Wheels finally came in. Changed it up from the chrome 60 wheels.

Got the transfer case stripped and soaking in cleaner so I can start reassemble tomorrow. Picked up all my parts from Torfab this morning, except the H55 was still in shipping. Aaaaaahhhhh! Just got a text the tranny is here! But I can’t get it today so my wife will have to pick it up next week and I’ll hopefully get it in next weekend when I get home from working.

I’ve got about 2 half days to work on this, it may be going by the time I have to head back to work. Today, I was able to assemble the t-case on the transmission and get it installed. Need gear oil and a couple bolts but I think I can try it out tomorrow.

Success! 10 miles and it’s great! T-case works as it should and keeps its fluids inside it which is a nice feature. Need to get the tunnel cover back on because there’s too much heat coming into the cab. Then I’ll get some more miles on it.

Those tires, wheels and hubcaps made all the difference. Looks like a different truck. It looks great. My favorite color for a 60.

About 50 miles on the 5 speed and overall I’m pretty happy with my choice. I used the adapter bushing with the 4 speed shifter instead of buying the 5 speed shifter. Maybe that leads to my one nuisance, maybe not. The shifter doesn’t seem to have a “home” spot it returns to: if you pull it out of 3rd, it’ll stay between 3-4. If you pull it out of 2nd it’ll stay between 1-2. This makes it a little difficult to shift at times, mostly the 2-3 shift. This may be due to being brand new too, where each gear wants a fairly precise shift. Also don’t have a lot of time on it either so there’s that. I read a lot that people didn’t like the 5 speed with 33’s and the 3.7 gearing but I am liking the gear spread for running errands, then creeping along in second on a gravel road at idle gives me about 7-10 mph will just chug along so long as the hill isn’t too steep. I think the way I intend to use it, this will be a pretty good setup.

Another poser glamor pic.

If it’s any consolation my 4 speed with almost 270k on it is the same way.

Also very jealous of the 5 speed, awesome progress :)

This thread sometimes makes me wish I had bought a 60 instead of a 40..

But I know the 40 will be great when I get it on the road.
Get both!…..

The h55 is very "clickety" on mine too. Only word I can think of, it takes some getting used to. Especially the exact rpms it likes to downshift at.

Notchy is the word I keep coming up with in my mind. But ya, same.

The last month has been super busy. We moved from western WA to Spokane area so every free day has been spent moving stuff. Finally a free weekend so we headed into Idaho to camp at Farragut State Park. My kids only know travel trailer camping but I told them it’s time for some life experiences and we are tenting it (they are 3 and 6…).

5 speed is awesome but the ol 2F needs a kick in the power department. Can’t wait to do the 2FE swap.
