I am so jealous. This looks like a pretty epic trip. My wife and I just picked up our first 100 series (99 lx).

How can we go next year?

We will make an announcement on MUD about one month prior to registration opening up. Expect that to be a little earlier this year. Late winter, early Spring.

Before posting anything else I'll say this: this was my 4th time at HIHs and every single year I came home with free stuff from Tim @nakman (@Gamiviti)!
Roof rack, sweater, shirts, beer and shot glasses, new rack brackets! Thank you for supporting the great event HIH is and for being such a cool and giving dude! May my return to Denver come soon so we can wheel together more often(as well as the rising sun group)!
Time for a sip! :)

If you attended HIH6, there is an email coming very shortly from 100s in the Hills with a very brief survey. It will take less than 3 minutes to complete but is very important for us, the Town of Silverton and our sponsors/raffle donors.

This is what makes the event better and it means a lot to us to get your feedback and opinions. We are listening.

Thanks!

I'll try to post a report sometime tonight. Unfortunately I could not find the charger for my camera batteries before we left home in the middle of july, we spent 3 weeks on the road taking photos with our iPhones! :bang:
Some came out alright! Also, I had to tear into our laptop yesterday because the constant heat and ups/downs in elevation caused the battery to swell up to the point of pushing the track pad out of place!:bang: Good thing it didn't ignite or explode inside the vehicle or while being handled! I just got all the trip pics from the phones to the laptop so I can go through them and pick some to post, so as for now it's connected to the power outlet until I put a new battery in.

This was our first long distance family vacation, and it was an amazing time for all of us! I am James and this is myself along with my girlfriend Denise and our 4 year old Parker.

On the drive from Denver to Silverton, we caught this awesome rainbow in a large valley where we could see both ends of it:

Our intended lodging for Thursday night had been double booked, so @paflytyer and @dubitup came through by loaning us a tent and sleeping bags for the night. Catastrophe avoided!

Half way through the first day of trails, I vibrated one of the AHC sensor turnbuckles out of the sensor. At first I didn't know what to do, but then I remembered I had some gorilla tape and could improvise a trail side repair. It worked so well that I finished the entire trip, including the 1800 mile drive back to South Carolina, and has still not been replaced with the new unit I picked up from @arcteryx

The scenery was AMAZING and greatly exceeded all of our expectations. Photos simply cannot do the views justice as most of the sense of depth and height are lost in the photo. Here is one that I picked from random after narrowing down to about 50 to choose from for this post:

There were also a lot of opportunities to take some good photos of the LX. Here is one that I liked the most:

I've been a member of quite a few different automotive related forums, attended numerous trips/meet ups/races/install days and nothing compares to this trip. None of the other groups were anywhere near the same dynamic as the many great people that we met on this trip. There was no ego on this trip, just a bunch of people wanting to hang out with other families while driving off-road. I gained a lot of knowledge of picking lines through obstacles, exactly what my LX can do and most importantly made a few new friendships.

This was also one of the first events where the vendors were great to be around. Not once, did a vendor try to sell me something. Yes, when I asked about specific products they answered my questions, but the overall feeling was that they were there to hang out and meet people instead of there to try to make a few more bucks. This attitude, along with all of their generous donations for the raffle, makes me more likely to shop with them vs other vendors who don't care to/don't have the time to come and just mingle with their customers.

The coordinators did a great job of putting this even together, thanks @bluecruiser and @paflytyer !

The whole family is ready for HIH7 already!

I also forgot to mention that the 10+ hours of video I took from my windshield mounted iPhone was effectively useless. The mount allowed my phone to vibrate just enough that trying to watch any portion of it while I was moving made me slightly sea sick.

We just made it in after our trip around the west at 5409 miles! HIH was our highlight! Thanks so much to Stan, Chris, Dan, and Brad for leading our family of 5. We had an awesome time and I was really thankful for these guides and their ability to lead and make us feel comfortable and safe. I was new to wheeling in CO and wheeling the family rig. These guys did great from finding us a camp site when we arrived ( thanks Brad!) to Dan giving us a tarp in the rain! Here are a couple of pics. I love the one of Stan leading me off into the abyss!

FWIW, my vehicle is almost completely stock: I have removed the side steps and installed sliders to protect the sills. My tires are the same 275/70SR16s M&S that came from the previous owner. While I do experience serious farkle envy, this is my second year and Lola made it up the waterfall on Black Bear, didn't fall off the mountain and did everything everyone else on my trails did. A bone stock truck is fine for this trip and will teach you how remarkably capable these trucks are without the all the gee-whiz goodies we love to put on them. That being said, tires with good tread make a big difference. Get your truck, do your baseline maintenance, make sure your tires are good and come on up with the rest of us, the altitude is fine.

My trip report will be postponed as I experienced serious jaw pain on Saturday and Sunday of the trip. After we got back Sunday night, I saw my Endodontist who diagnosed a pretty good infection above one of my upper molars. Some emergency surgery and a small bone graft later, it's gone and I've been laid up for over a week recovering. I finally feel good enough to look at something other than the Olympics.

Thanks to Stan, Chris and company for a phenomenal event, and special thanks to James for helping out with his Hi-lift when I blew out a sidewall on Engineer Pass.

Made it home late sat night from our trip.

Love the pics that are in this thread, it honestly makes me want to get back in the truck and head to Colorado.

But i cant because after 7500 miles in 3 weeks, 15 miles from home the tranny let go! Honestly not even mad, 270k miles and A LOT of abuse. If im lucky its a solenoid, if im not its NEW TRANNY TIME!

Thanks again to Stan and Chris for an awesome event. Y'all dont charge enough, and we need a Moab edition....so get on that already.

Hopefully the tranny issue is an easy fix. If not, fix it and get another 270K from it. Glad you got home safely.

Please check your email and fill out the survey for us.....the response for a Moab edition is being heard....stand by for more information. Thanks, as always for your support at HIH.

Solid thread and trip reports. I easily killed 30 minutes here at work going thru this. With only about a year of LC ownership I'd love to participate in this event someday. The knowledge one could gain alone regarding the truck's capability seems worthwhile. Also nice to see so many little scamps in attendance since I'd surely like to bring mine. Thanks for sharing everyone!
