I have a 99 LX and would love to put some additional lighting on it but I don't want to add a steel bumper just for that and I don't want to cut holes in the factory one either. I was looking at it a little more closely and I saw a couple of holes in the bumper support directly behind the little vent openings on the left and right side of the license plate. Is there any reason you couldn't bolt a metal bracket to the frame that then sticks out past the bumper to mount lights on?
I know this is an old thread, but at least I searched!
And it was like the only one I could find that addressed the LX. The Land Cruiser bumper is different and has a perfect spot to mount a light bar!

Bought this LX in April. Previous owner did the install. Looks like he cut the opening and drilled them screwed to the metal bumper.

That looks pretty good. Does it wobble at all being attached to the plastic bumper?

That's a perfect place for them. Just wish there was a way to remove that insert without cutting it. Although it doesn't seem too noticeable?
It did not shake that much, a little at times go over big bumps. i was able to bolt it through the bumper area with two bolts. I probably could of used thicker steel when fabbing the bracket to get least amount of wobble.
Funny no one ever shares how/where they got through the firewall and installed the switch... I have installed the lights, run the electrical, now where the heck do I pop a hole in firewall?Here is a quick photo wire up of the light install. Pretty easy overall!! I purchased a pre built wiring harness from amazon as well which make things super easy for the install! I also removed my drivers side headlamp to fix a cracked support. Its not needed in the light install...
Open the hood and locate the parts that are needed to be removed with the bumper cover. Its super straight froward. Just start taking the trim pieces off.
I removed the trim pieces around each head lamp.
Removed the bumper cover with 6 bolts from underneath (1 bold in each wheel well).
I then cut out each grill piece. I used a multi tool then cleaned it up with a knife. jigsaw or any small saw would work.
I took some measurements and some dry fitting then drilled two holes for the mounting hardware. I used a long drill but and 5" bolts.
Here is the second light mounted.
Then I did some quick wiring to make sure they turned on.
Installed the bumper cover and the trim pieces.
All done.
Go through the large rubber grommet on the driver’s side. Poke a hole in it and carefully feed the wires through.
Baja Designs Squadron Pro lights fit perfectly and light up the (off) road perfectly!
Is there any way you can send a pic of how you mounted the lights? Did you just drill a hole in the support and bolt it on? Also did you have to remove the bumper or anything to tighten the lights?

What about mounting one under the bumper? There are some bolts that hold the bumper on that could be used to hold a light bar. I'd probably only want a single row...You would need to make your own brackets, but that's not hard. I also know it would be more exposed to the elements being down there, but I could silicone the crap out of all the seals....
I am just wondering how the light pattern is for these bars if I would be losing a lot of output having it this low.

Assuming most people offroad their vehicles here to some degree, mounting an expensive light under the bumper is not gonna work. Unless you’re ok with losing your lights to a rock.

I don’t off-road that much. Never come close to hitting my bumper. But that was my biggest concern as well. Which is why I’ll probably get inexpensive lights!

I wonder if the night view bumper installs on the non-night view LX. I just can’t bring myself to cut into the bumper and I also don’t want to go with an aftermarket bumper either.

This is on my 2000 LX and about to do the same on my ‘06 LX.
Not one single row but two small single rows. Did not cut or drill anything. 3M double sided tape and they will not budge. Fits perfectly.

Those look good! I thought about doing some thing similar but on the bottom and maybe just zip ties around the mount on the side?

I actually don’t think you could drill holes and bolt them down more snug than tape on top and bottom of light. Fits perfectly below and above.

I ended up ordering these. For $33 I’ll see how it goes. I’m actually more testing them for fit. If they fit well I’ll roll with them until they die and then get some nicer ones.
