Built these for my 62 yesterday. They are really low profile and very solid.

be aware, if those are pipe, they will flex into the body.

not if they never hit a rock they won't;) cut them off and send them to me, no rocks around here:D
If they are never going to hit a rock, then why do you need them?

You need sliders for cockroaches???

well yes kinda, if you're downtown charleston at night cockroach sliders would come in handy. They're called palmetto bugs by the way.

clean.....nice job

one thought: you may want to consider adding some gussets to your tubes where they hit the mounting plates at the frame as a precautionary strength adding move.....would beef them up even more

good work though,

Pipe

Yes, they are made of scedule 40 pipe, which I have had good luck with. I built this set with the same stuff/ same construction, and the 4runner frame actually bent inwards on the angle iron area as oppossed to the pipe bending. The "Waterfall" at Disney Oklahoma is not very kind on equipment!
I allways said that if I built another pair I would run angle iron all the way down the frame to stop this but there is not as much room to do that on the cruiser; especially on the driver's side. $35 Total cost

Maiden Voyage

Got to try the sliders and spare carrier this weekend and everything worked out great. I had some really heavy impact with the rocks, especially in the rear, and had no problems with the integrity of the material used. If anyone has had problems in the past with "pipe", they apparantly chose the wrong kind.

Tubing is way stronger than pipe. I have never seen a "legal" race car with a pipe cage. Pipe will break where the tubing will bend. I would not trust my 60's body to be protected by pipe.

so are you saying that cruiser will crack the pipe on the rocks? ;p

Who cares what he is saying. Nobody is disputing that tubing is good stuff, and lighter to boot. What is being stated is that Schedule 40 pipe is a great alternative for constructing sliders, and it's inexpensive. I havn't really seen anything that extreme on this site that would break the pipe anyway.
It's entertaining to read everybody's opinions here; especially those who chime in on subjects that they lack knowledge on.

did you draw up the plans or just measure and construct without plans?

If you did make plans would you mind sending me a copy via email??
