My '72 55 died on me while she was going down the road at 25 MPH. She just sort of choked out and died. Engine cranks but won't start up. Checked the points and rotor which are pretty new, and they look O.K. What should I look for next?

Yes - check for spark.

Is there fuel in the float bowl?

Does he know the float bowl has a tiny glass window on the side? :)

Also check you fuel filters.... they might be plugged up.
Might just want to check the fuel pump too. Its easy to take off, open up, and inspect. Might have some crap in there not allowing it to send fuel at all or very well.

Check your dwell and timing. When were the valves adjusted last?

Check yor fuel and your gauge..

Sometimes the fuel gauge will lie to you, my ford truck showed half a tank while I was going down the freeway turns out the tank was empty..

I know on my SBC when I starting her for the first time she would just crank and crank and do nothing, I finally adjusted the timing on the distributor just a bit and she cranks up everytime...

Yes def ck. timing! could be as simple as a loose screw.
when my old F motor did this I found my dizzy bearings had locked up from lack of lubrication. pull the dizzy n see if it spins freely. if not "Nappa" had me going quick! they had one in stock, under a bill w/tax.
It is a very simple moter for sure!
