Long time reader - first time poster from South Dakota.
Have been helping my brother on and off with his 2 FJ55's for a while and since he's now acquired a third FJ, it's time to jump into the fray.
First - is a 1976 that he rescued from a shelterbelt some years ago with a dead 2F. Possible oil starvation. He's had the spring over axle modifications done and has high steer mods. Current engine is a small block 283 with adapter to the Toyota tranny/transfer case. Much detail work still needed to get this to a point where the engine could be started.
Second - is a '74 with what is likely the original 2F still in it. (Not running but turns over). It was slated to be used by a fire department for jaws of life training when he rescued that one. Haven't tried to get it started.
Third - FJ55 also a '76 has been added recently to the collection. Small block 327 with the same adapter to the Toyota trans/transfer case. (Runs and drives!)
The object is to eventually end up with a solid running example customized to his liking that will be used to run about town and not for any heavy trail use.
First question:
If he elects to sell the damaged 2F from the "spring over" '76, what's the fair price knowing a complete rebuild is in its future.
We know it has a least two spun main bearings. Rods appear OK. Valve train and cam condition are unknown. We are both pretty good around cars/engines but we ARE NOT engine builders.
I will attempt to attach some pics as background.
This is the first 1976. Seized 2F removed. 283 partially installed.
This 1974 saved from the jaws of life training:
and the latest addition 1976 runs and drives.
Engine for rebuild:
If you've read to the end, THANK YOU! - and thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.
The wealth of knowledge residing here is staggering.
This is gonna be FUN!
