Mine is awesome. Been serving its purpose for 8 years now. Actually surprised I haven't been pulled over and that a proper front bumper isn't a requirement for an out of province inspection. Feel free to steal this design idea for your own rig! :p :hillbilly:

A real bumper is in the works. I'll submit pics eventually if you're lucky.

We have done setups similar to the Rat's on a couple of '60s. Don't have any pics handy.

This is the "standard" fromnt bumper on a '40 for the Alaska Cruiser Crew.

When used with a PTO winch we put a receiver in the middle of the bumper since the fairlead sits up top. Starting to turn the d-rings 90 degrees too on new bumpers.

Hey guys! I want to see pics of your off-road bumpers on your fj40s. I have a pretty stout set-up, but it sticks out too far. I kind of want something with tubes and follows the FJs lines, but want to see different ones for ideas on a new custom made one. Lets see 'em!

Heres mine with winch and high lift mounts.

MtnClimber,
Glad you like it.... actually fell in love when I got it on
23 Mar 2006. Entire BJ was shipped from EAST Malaysia
(Sabah, Borneo/Kalimantan). The primary function of
the "set back" bull bar is to allow good seatings when
the felled trees are pushed up timber trailers known as
"Sun Tai Wong" or "Hill Emperrors" when translated and
sometimes known as "Ghost Trailers/Lorry" for there are
NO lightings/etc... in deep jungle.... Typically the push-ups
are by a minimum of 2 BJs & at times uses 3.

On the tires, they are Silverstone MT117-X'treme,
similar design to Simex Extreme Trekkers or known as
"Centipedes". In my opinion they are one of the BEST
for musshy, deep ruts and to a certain extend for mud
holes The rugged studs on the edges and side walls
are use as "digger/traction" when run against rut walls
or side embankments.
The other option is having tire chains which proven good
and sometimes better for heavily soiled terrains.
Attached tires info for your ref (not all sizes are captured)

Have fun viewing.

I like this one! I like how it sets back above the bumper towards the grill. Are those Caterpillar tires?

Centipedes, Caterpillars.... I knew I was close, lol.

Custom built here in Mt. Home Idaho. Inspired by ARB's Bullbar, but modified the width. Also has winch opening behind the license plate. This is one beefcake bumper.

The PO put this on (kinda like HJ47's). I don't particularly care for it, but it's starting to grow on me.
