Very cool guys! Thanks for all your help...i think i'm going with a yellow. i will be sure to post up pics here when it's all done, although it may not be til the summer. Thanks!! and more pictures are always welcome

And does anyone know how much a professional paint job would be?

it really depends on the shop
i know a guy who bought 400$ worth of paint and only had to pay 175 to get it shot. shop even did a little sanding came out looking great
and then again my grandad just paid 3k for a paint job... shop around prices really will be all over the map though

And, it depends on how much prep work you do yourself, and what you expect the shop to do. If you do all the prep work and just expect the shop (say Maaco) to tape it and spray it, figure $300 give or take. But, that depends on type of paint, paint quality, etc. Then again, my buddy is having a 69 camaro done right now. After the body work and paint, it is going to be over $12000. Like I said, it just depends on what you want to have done.

What kind of prep work can I have done prior to bringing it over to the shop?

My next door neighbor owns a body shop and he said that he normally charges around 5k for a paint job, but he could do it for 2-3k for me. That seemed really expensive so i'm going to ask him what I can do prior to giving it to him to possibly lessen the cost.

and more 2002 vw bug yellow pics, this is the 40 that the guy i bought mine from owns. hes a shorter guy and chopped the top 4 inches.

No way, that is my old 67 I sold to him...think his name is John, in Marysville, WA in 2000. I went by a little over a year after I sold it to see it, and yeah he did chop the top, I gave him and extra hardtop with it so that made it easier. If he ever sells it I want first dibs...with the top on its to short for me, my head hits the top. Small world....
Oh no, just noticed sale sign in the window from 2007 :(

hey My71FJ40, yes his name is john and hes in marysville. i think he finally sold it but not sure. lots of people looked at it but he was asking around $6500.00 for it. i bought my 76 from him too. he buys them and fixes them up for fun and profit. hes retired and does it to keep busy. oh and the chrome bezel was originally on mine when he bought it so i probably got the one off yours.

ust found this pic on a web site and have just decided it will be my next color , so long 309 freeborn red , this is the nicest blue I have ever seen . Anyone have the paint code/name for this blue ,lol , I notice some have simmilar colors on here but I don't think they are exactly the same. Or maybe it looks good because it is wet .
