I just traded some work for a brand new Devilbiss 60gal, 6.5hp compressor and would like to set my garage up properly the first time. My old, smaller compressor had a built in regulator and I just hooked a hose reel to it and went from there. This time, I'd like to run a couple air outlets in different locations and put in a regulator and dryer in the line. Any tips on setting up the air system to be the cleanest, dryest and most practical? Thanks. ...Steve

Put the dryer as far from the compressor tank as possible. Warm air carries water, cool air drops it.

Use copper line. It is easy to solder together although getting expensive now. It also lets the air cools so that the water condenses in the line. Run the line at a slight angle and put a ball valve at the end for a drain. As mentioned before, put your dryer at the end of the line, although if you have to run alot of copper line like I did (60feet ), the air is really pretty dry at the end. Run your air outlets at 90 degrees up from the line using a T fitting. Mine are about 3 feet above the main line. This lets the condensed water fall back to the main line and down to the drain.

I know a woodworking shop here in BC that has used PEX pipe for years with no issues.
Has a 3/4 inch line around most of the shop for the air tool etc

Thanks, I remember reading that now that I see it. I'm hoping to get started on the weekend if I can get my basement ready for drywall by then.

Best deals on a good regulator and filter/dryer set-up?

I do not use a water filter/Air Drier. I live in an arid climate that very seldom sees humidity above 40%.

I drain my 80 gallon air tank once a month or so. I ahve not installed any additional air lines in my shop yeat. When I do I will install them at the ends of the lines.
