Hi,

Time to replace the shocks. The vehicle is stock, except 31x10.5 BFG A/Ts. I am thinking of installing Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks but seems that I can't find the correct part number. What do you guys think, is it a good idea or someine could suggest a better option. I am trying to improve the ride, make i bit more comfortable on a road.

Thanks,
Alex

Go to Rancho's web site, check out there product line, they have a listing in the catalogue for your BJ70, I just got a set last week for mine.

Just found the sheet I marked the numbers on.
Rancho RS9000 #RS99158 Front
#RS99144 Rear

Rancho 5000 #RS5158 Front
#Rs5144 Rear

You cannot buy the "RSX" model for the BJ70

In my BJ-75, Toyota OEM shocks were too short. They were exactly for this model but limited at full drop. Not lifted. Didn´t last long...

I would not order 5000's. They are stiff.

Sorry Wesintl, I thought it was you talking about OME /stock suspension. You say that the 5000's are to hard. What do you suggest. I'm new at this 4x4 stuff, so I listened to others that lead me to 5000's. How bad are they?

I dunno.. I havn't run many shocks but everytime I buy a cruiser be it a fj40 or bj70 the PO replaced the shocks with rs5000's and I hated them. The ride really stiff. Heck I think you could buy the ome med (n85 for that price) or some other folks like wayne that turn trucks would have a recommendation.

So would that mean Bilstein's meant for a HJ60 would fit a BJ70?

Yes they will fit Just watch the load rating, 60's can have more weight in the rear vs. a 70. I don't think you can go wrong on the front shocks because there is a lot of weight up there but in the rear a stiff shock is not a comfortable ride especially if you don't carry a constant load.

OME front is n88(light) or n92(heavy).
OME rear is n85 (light and heavy)

Ahh, ok thanks for the heads up. I'm still a little confused about the listing in the Bilstein pdf since I don't know too much about other series of LC's. So which part number for the rear would I want, the one for '88-'90 or '80-'87? I'm thinking the '88-'90....

Landcruiser FJ60, HJ60:

------------Front------Rear---

'88-'90 HD B46-0247 B46-1132

-----------------------Front------Rear----

'80-'87 (From 4/80) HD B46-0247 B46-0256

LC70 Bilstein part Numbers front is B46 1004, rear B46 1035.

have a vehicle application list for Bilsteins and the Part #'s i mentioned above are the ones used for the BJ/FJ/HJ 70 (swb), BJ, FJ 73 (mwb), FJ, HJ 75 (lwb)

and if you want a more comfortable and controlled ride for your vehicle is suggest that you buy OME's.

front N88 normal N50 firm
rear N94 normal N85 firm

I am kind of puzzled. I spoke with ARB rep and asked him about the 70 series shocks and he suggested N88 for the front and N85 for the rear. I asked him about N94 and he told me it's for 62s. If the N94 for the 62s, can I just get OEM ones (rear) for 62 series and N88 for the front??????

N88 is what I have in the front and N85 in the rear. I have the ARB app guide for the 7x. which is what I listed above.. You could buy a n94 if you wanted. N94 is a lighter load.

OME-N94 OLD MAN EMU NITROCHARGER SHOCKS 60 SERIES LIGHT REAR W/ 19MM PIN
OME-N85 OLD MAN EMU NITROCHARGER SHOCKS 60 SERIES MEDIUM REAR W/ 19MM PIN

I would definatly put n88 in the front maybe even a n50 if you have a bar/winch etc.

I bought what OME recommended and so far i'm very pleased on the whole kit (save price)

Oh.. it's listed as a 60 series but it crosses over to the 70 app. I just used the listing off a cruiser site.

Oh.. and 60's have a light, med, and heavy app. The 70 AFAIK only has a light and heavy for the front and Medium and constant load for the rear.

Thanks for the part numbers. I checked out Bilstein's German site and found the listing for the BJ70 there. OME shocks are atractive but I can get the Bilstein's at cost which is more attractive and I use their PSS9 kit on my Focus and have been very very happy their performance.

We'll you need to say that sooner ;) anyway like i said before I don't have that much experience compared to some on shocks and could only give the info that I know about

Oh BTW you have a link to the German bilstein site with the 70 app?
