I bought these used. They are rough country springs(8841 abd 8842 if I recall). I called the company and they told me on which corner to put them on. Well......here is the result. Granted the motor and body are not one the frame, but wow it will have to compress the springs a ton to get them right. I know this will not do so I do have a couple of questions.

1. Mine is a 1979. Are there any changes from the mid 70s to the 79 year model in the springs. I figure these came off of an older model 40.

2. I took off what I assumed to be the OEM springs. By measurement the center of the shackle mounts comparing the new and old are equal (more or less).

3. I dont want to just slap on longer shackles in hopes that it will correct it. I want to fix it correctly which may mean a whole new set up (not my first option of course). So how the hell do I fix it or by some miracle of chance does the body and motor way enough to flex it into shape?

In the worst case...please recommend replacement brands (2.5" lift) outside of custome fabs. Many thanks............

something's wrong. the rear looks like it has more than a few inches of lift. How many leafs are in the packs? looks like 3? Those will be rough riding, very stiff.
The front may settle when the motor is installed, but I don't think the rear will.
longer shackles will not fix the problem.

longer shackles will only make it worse. I think you'll see a dramatic difference once you have weight on there, i.e. the motor and body pieces.

1 s***ty springs
2 no weight on them
3 s***ty springs

I have a 4" Rough Country lift and looking at the pictures i'm sure thats what you have too. My shackle agle sucks as well but yours will get better when you put the weight back on them.
If the country wasn't rough enough before it will be if you leave those springs on there. I would find another lift, ANY othe lift. If you cant afford another lift, put the stocks back on untill you come up with some dough. I would have put my stock springs back on had i realized how bad it would ride but now that i have drivelines built for a lift i'm kinda stuck with it for a while.
Maybe we could take one of the springs out that would soften it up enought to ride better and help the shackle angle? Anyone?

Finish putting your truck back together and drive it before you make any decisions. Be sure the shackle bolts are not so tight that they stop the shackles from swinging as they should. Longer shackles will make your angles even worse. Good luck.

It is what you would expect with no weight on the springs. Wait until you have i all back together before worrying about it.

FWIW: I just reconfigured my spring setup in the rear (moving the rear spring and shackle hangar's back.) I found that adding just the tranny & transfercase weight to the frame changed my shackle angle by ~5-6*. I imagine adding the engine, body, etc on top of that would increase the change considerably. I have stock length OME's w/4" shackles.
