I think you have a funny idea about minor body rust.

Even from fifteen feet away, you can see the holes in the tub.

I suppose that is why you have not included a photo from the rear showing the rust in the lower sill and rear doors.

Driver’s floor looks rusty as well.

The work required to remove the rust in that tub and replace with new metal would be more work than simply installing a new tub...

Poser,
That is minor rust for a New England truck.

Looks like rockers, fenders, rear quarters, maybe wheel wells, rear sill, and maybe doors.

With that said, I would pay 5k for it. And thats beause I can do the repairs myself, If I couldnt, than maybe 3-4k.

A great looking rig tho...

I do not care where you are located in the world; rust is rust.

That car has a significant amount of rust in it that is not being shown in the pictures, and until this user post up the other bad sections of the car, to think that vehicle is legitimately worth five-grand in that shape pictured, you have a needle in your arm.

That car is two years away from being able to pass your hand through the quarter-panels if some poor sap in a humid environment overpays for it.

Further, just because there are foolish people paying exorbitant prices for something that likely would have been parted out just a few years ago, does not mean that is what it is worth.

I would pay at least 5k. Maybe a little more if I really wanted it. Best wishes!

out in the west....things are....well...less spendy...

yup, 3k for a low, and 4k for a high, washington coast. minor rust issues. if i had $$$$ right now i'd fly out and buy it from you, just because there is so much there. nice rig.

I share this sense of frustration. For those of us that have been 'around,' these threads make as much sense as the housing market and bundling subprime derivatives.

A buddy of mine just bought a 1980FJ40 with this level of body rust with the factory ps and a/c for $2k. THAT is realistic IMO.

You guys are being a little rough on this guy, can't you see it has the factory AM/FM radio and a good spare tire thats gotta add $50 to the price.
To be fair I have seen alot worse go for 2-4k that is not in bad shape, for less than 1k in sheet metal and some paint and it would look as good as some of those EBAY specials going for 12K and up.

i agree...its not all that bad...

sivart7208 i would start at like 4k or even 5k (high) and see how it goes...you need a starting point...i think thats what your after right?

what people ask and what things sell for are not the same...expect somebody to haggle ya down up to 1k.

$2500 to $4000 depending on what other information comes with it: compression test, leak down test, receipts, general wiring appearance (this usually gives a good idea of what else the PO did), etc...

I think that the people that say they'd be willing to pay $5k are the ones that usually will kick the tires, but never come up with the cash...

your in your own area unless someone up that way really wants a cruiser it may be a tough sell .the few people around here that have bought cruisers go south or west for them.for the price of a tub and a lot of work you can buy a good 40 from a dry climate .a 78 just sold here in pa for 700.00 and it was what we consider ok .the 2500.00 sounds about right for the east coast .good luck

Here in the non-rust belt, if sound mechanically, that would be a $3K truck. Maybe $4K if you got lucky. :hhmm:

since it runs and looking to have everything still i think $3500 would be a good price. i wouldn't take anything below $3k if the frame has zero rust. check the very back part of the frame and hit it with a hammer and see if its soft or not. thats where i had rust on mine.

$5-5.5K truck easy. Some ppl will pay stupid amounts for hacked up V8, different painted, rolling nightmares because they dont have much rust. Reality, EVERY stock 40 is going to have rust if driven. There is somthing to be said for the originality of that truck which is just as hard to find as a lower rust one. Buy it for 5k, drop 3k in a 3/4 alum. tub and have a 12k truck that you dont have to worry (as much) about rust. Dont let some of the cheap dicks get you down, lets see another tuck like that advertised for 3K , anyone?

that works good 3 k for the truck 3 k for the tub another grand or 2 for paint and misc when you can buy a nice one for that and have it shipped to your house and just drive it .dont let those big price dicks get your hopes to hi good luck

I'll give you $50. Cash. Right now.

No, really, I just paid $4500 a cruiser in NoCal. BUT it had a spare of *everything* you could possibly switch out: alternator, water pump, belts, ignition system, distributor, gasket set, spare 2f motor, etc. As well as some tasteful upgrades.

There's a guy here in So. Oregon that can't unload a cruiser that *appears* to be in about the same condition as yours for $2700.

I guess the bottom line is that it's only worth what someone will pay for it. Did I just say something blatantly obvious?
