alright thanks. i have just had signs in the windows for a week and have gotten 4 people that are willing to pay around 7-8k... stupid rednecks love hard to find vehicles i guess!

the reason im selling is that im a poor college sophomore right now and maintaining and filling this beat up is just running my bank dry.. the reason i dont want to sell it is that durring the summers when i am home up in northern NH it is one of my favorite cars to drive around, as its much more practical than in the city.. so if i cant sell if for the "right" price than i would rather just keep it and do some body work this summer..

what are your guys thoughts about selling it after i fix those spots with sheet metal? im thinking i could get a bit more but is it worth it?
ill let you know what happens..

my comments are based on facts of fj40s that were sold on the east coast .there are 3 people within 30 miles of me who bought clean fj40s from the south and out west who paid less than 6 grand shipped to their door. people are not spending the money right now for play toys maybey just maybey there is that 1 person who is willing to buy that truck for 5 grand so list it for 5 or best offer and see what you get .i wish the guy luck no matter what he gets for it .

Put it on ebay and find-out what "the market" thinks. Like Johnny C, I think you asked for a starting point. Put it on for $1000 and see what happens. It is kind of irrelevant what the list thinks-you only really care about the one person that is going to put money in your hand. It is worth whatever it sells for, that's all.

I like the big talk about NE rust....coming from Minnesota I have no idea what you are talking about. I am sorry I did not take a picture now, but one of the last Minnesota trucks that I parted-out had gaping rust holes in the pocket door...I kid you not.

I know a few of the old-schoolers have chimed-in and I think they would share my feelings of shock in what rusted FJ40s are fetching these days. The last thing I would add is that anybody who buys that truck with the intention to restore, will clearly out-strip the purchase price with body repairs (regardless if this is DIY).

Good luck with the sale and remember price is just what pay, value (good or bad) is what you get.

Does it have all the emission items on it and does it pass SMOG? That is the determining price thing with me.

I'm leaning heavy with Poser on this.

The rust is through the tub on top of the rear inner fender. How many of you have seen that before? The bottom lip and rear sill is common. How does the frame look?

And what is that big object imbedded in the dash to the right of the gauge cluster?

Damn, then I'm gonna sell my TX born rig for 12K. One rust spot about the size of a silver dollar on a fender and thats it. I'd say 2K tops depending on what the frame looks like. .02

I wouldn't touch that truck with ten gallons of naval jelly!

I can just imagine what the frame looks like...

I have always had a soft spot for FJ40 s that are stock; especially green ones. Therefore, if someone really wants a vehicle, they will pay. To put it into perspective, two weeks ago I purchased a 1972 JF40 for $3600 (http://www.source3.com/photos/main.php?g2_itemId=334). In my opinion, the vehicle I purchased had minor rust. Remember, minor rust (little, or any other adjective) is a very relative term.

That is a clean rig and for $3,600 it is a good value.

Make sure you plug the pipe that is sticking out between the air filter and the Cankcase vent tube.

If someone offered you 8k call them back and take it.

agreed 7-8 with out the rust is not a bad price for that truck . it doesn't even come with a soft top , it also looks like your front fenders are rusted and will probably be rusted right out in a year or two .

if you got 5 k for it i think you would be doing good .

That does look like a nice deal...looks pretty darn clean

Hello all, i have unwillingly decided to put my cruiser up for sale.. i have been trying to come up with an asking price for her but am having a little trouble deciding.

info:
-1976
-i beleive all original besides the seats, lift, and tires
-about 82k miles on the body, new motor was put in in 82
-as you can see by the pics minor body rust
-little to zero frame rust
-runs great

let me know what you think..

Always tough to hear what others have to say about YOUR Cruiser, but I have to agree with those who are saying $3 to $5...maybe a bit more if the guy really wants it.

Best of luck

I think $7-8k is a little high, but 5k would be more fair. Everyone has this "mystery" friend that bought one really cheap, maybe so. But, I asked before in this thread, show me a current listing for a cruiser LIKE THIS ONE for $2-3K ........ exactly, point proven.:flipoff2: Anyway good luck with your truck.

You could probably get this one for close to $4K...

The truck shown in the first post is a 2k truck. Period. If someone is willing to pay more than that, then take the money and run. This is providing that the truck runs, is drivable etc. and the frame is not rusted out. These trucks are not Hemi-cudas, Ferrari's or your 401k. Be realistic people stop spending barrett jackson dollars for these old things and come back to earth. I know how much they cost to work on and replace parts that makes them worth even less to me!
