FJ Cruiser Land Cruiser | eBay

I've built and rebuilt a lot of cars and trucks but I'll be the first to admit I don't know a ton about the Landcruiser. That said, I'm reading up on them and learning as much as I can. I DO know which way the bezel goes on thanks to this site so I've got that going for me.

I own an 8 bay shop and have five high level professional techs. We mostly do transmission, transfer case and engine rebuilding as well as major mechanical restorations (no body work) on mostly domestic vehicles. We do a lot of work on newer Toyotas but we've never had an older LC in the shop. We're in Upstate NY and they don't really have them up here. I suspect our NY winters and salt claimed most of them.

I'm looking at this Landcruiser and I'd appreciate your expert opinions on both the value and condition of the one in the link above. It looks clean to me but some of the people on here seem to really have Hawkeyes for details. Please check out this link to eBay and offer your thoughts and opinions on value. If anyone has something similar also please let me know.

This is not a flip. I'm looking for something I will drive and play with personally. I love the LC look and while we do a ton of Jeep work, perosnally I have no desire to own a Jeep.

I personally would look for a truck of this condition from someone posting here on mud. The truck you posted looks great but you never know what short cuts could have been taken during the build that don't show up in pictures.

They also are selling this for a profit obviously, looks to be a dealer, whereas that same truck sold here on mud by a member would probably be around 25k by someone that spent way more than that building it up.

That's not to say that someone won't spend north of 35k on this one, but if it were me spending that much, it would be from a fellow member that has a long build thread where you can easily determine the build quality.

They seem to have a lot of 40s listed... They are also all over the South so I would guess they are a broker of some kind.

The likelihood of one company getting ahold of that many nice rigs at once just makes me a little wary.

I'd need to see a lot more pictures for the price that are asking...

Also check with @overton or his trucks at lcnation.com. He's a regular here that deals in these trucks and represents what he has honestly. You really want someone that is standing behind what they are selling.

Agreed!

Wouldn’t you agree that anyone selling outside of this site is selling to make a profit, are they’re fj40s are just a bit overpriced?

It looks like they sell on consignment. There are a lot of people doing that with all kinds of cars, tractors, etc. I'll keep an eye on LCnation for sure.

Depends. Plenty of craigslist ads where people are selling trucks that are less than what you would pay for that same truck if it was at a dealership. I've bought my fair share of trucks from people that sold them for far less than they had in them, that's how it goes sometimes. I just am a little wary of some shady dealers that have no history of the truck and put lipstick on the thing to get it out the door.

The point I was trying to make, whether it be buying from a dealer or a mud member, is to look for someone with some history in the community, either with a build thread or a reputation of being honest.

Right. And it seems that any of them being sold on consignment won’t budge on the price, and my guess is because they want that profit. But if you were to deal directly with whoever is the actual seller, they’d be willing to go lower on the price so they can actually sell it instead of it sitting on consignment for ever.
