She started! :bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce:

Had to adjust the Timing and Idle Mixture Screws out a little, now she pursssss. Sounds awesome with straight pipe and cat.

Gonna try to fix my oil galley plug tomorrow, with whatever I can find locally.

Ordered a new Master and Slave for the clutch. That things leaks crazy fast.

I still dont know what is wrong with my transmission though. Here are the symptoms

  • Neutral is not free(as in I let the clutch go and it stopped the engine, while in N)
  • No reverse
Are there any adjustments I can do while its on the car? I can take some pics of the shifter hole if it will help.

Thanks guys!

congrats on getting it going. Not sure about your trans issues. Make sure you re-torque the head after a few warm-up, cool-down cycles.

Got the galley plug installed and the transmission out today.
Pretty difficult to do without a transmission jack haha. But it was possible.

I had pictures that were on my phone but they got corrupted :crybaby:

Does anyone have instructions of how to properly install the top cover on the transmission?
Like the position of those lever thingys on the cover itself.

Thanks alot.

Got transmission fixed and reinstalled today and took the old girl for a break-in drive.

BUT

Hmmm this can't be good...

Found this little bugger at the start of the stream.

I somehow managed to blow a freeze plug

Stupid Big 3 (My Machine Shop) They must not have gotten a good hold on it.

The car works well besides the backfiring, I'll get that figured out. It only did it maybe 3 times on my short drive of maybe 10 minutes. (open headers don't help either)

Here are some shots of my engine after we pushed her in the garage to take a nap.

How would one go about re-inserting the freeze plug?

Should get my clutch slave tomorrow, and the master cylinder came about 45 minutes ago. So I'll get those installed within the next week.

Almost have a cruiser again!

Instead of this clown car.

backfiring

....open headers are why you're backfiring on deceleration....:bang:

Doesn't it sound good with open headers? :hillbilly:

Don't run it for too long without an exhaust or you might warp those purdy headers.

Yay one less thing to worry about!

Thanks jeverich!

GLTH: It does sound good. very tractor-like haha

I do have a pipe with a cat stuck on the end for an exhaust so it's better than nothin.

Mine sounds deeper because of the cat.

Yours is pretty pingy compared to what I have right now haha

Well today I got the Master Cylinder and Clutch Slave Cylinder hooked up. Nice and pretty, and best of all no leaks!

Thanks Guys!

Pictures tomorrow I promise!

Ignore the stupid galley plug oil contamination. I couldn't get the oil off even with simple green. But the plug now has Black RTV on it instead of Permatex Thread Sealant. Hoping for no leaks.

We got the freeze plug back in there with the lightest coating of silicone on it. The headers curved perfectly to get a socket and a short extension on there, to tap it back in.

Had to suck it up and pay $27 a gallon for toyota red coolant from the stealership, glad I have parents who want the cruiser out of the garage haha. We plan to change the oil and fill the coolant and get it in the exhaust shop ASAP.

Then I can drive her again :steer:

Got her filled up and changed the oil. Drove her for a quick drive and I think she is good to go. The galley plug stopped leaking. The plan is to take it to the exhaust shop tomorrow morning and get her fitted up.

Yay :D

Congrats!! Make sure they get the exhaust up close to the body. The guys who did mine did a decent job, but it was too low in the rear so it got all bent up on the rocks.

The exhaust is nice and high. The muffler is almost above the frame rail. So were good on that.

But it is leaking out of 2 of the 4 freeze plugs i can see on the drivers side. (the big ones)

How in the world can I fix this?

stupid 3 should be installing those freeze plugs again

Well they would just say something like "You must have messed it up." I am tempted to call them and at least get some advice on how to install them so they don't leak though.
