Scat F40 seat bracket Help needed

Well I thought I would get my Procar seats installed before my wife and kids got home. The Kids keep asking when our FJ40 will be ready.

Problem I'm facing is the Scat 81619 passenger side adapter has two holes that don't line up with my 1976 short gas tank L shaped bracket. Any suggestions? Do I need a bracket off a 75 and older FJ? I hate to start grinding if there is a simpler/safer solution. My first thought was, damn the Scat brackets are off, but then I came to the conclusion it's most like me that's defective.

wow, thats not off by much from what can tell. you probably already tried this, but did you loosen everything up, the original brackets and the scat bracket to see if there is any play? i would think you would be able to gain that little bit. just a thought, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

loosen up all the other bolts and get a screw driver in there to pry it over... don't scratch anything!

edit: loosen the smaller bolts on the rear mounts too.. i think they have some play as well where it mounts to the tub.

I did loosen everything. The last photo #4 shows a close-up of the lip thats keeping the holes from lining up. I'm thinking maybe my OEM bracket that hugs the tank is wider than 75 and older. Before I ordered the Seats w/brackets I had my parts guy call Scat because they do list the brackets for 74 to July 75 FJ40's. That Scat guy apparently said they will work. And I saw the post from GA Architect who has a 77 and installed a set so I pulled the trigger. No Biggie, I'm sure I'll figure it out.

I had the same problem on my 75, I loosened everything as suggested, still wouldn't line up enough to get bolts in. Knowing the risk of not being able to return the brackets. I decided to grind off a bit of the "lip" you mentioned and that did the trick. Repainted the work and installed.

It's not what I anticipated having to do, kinda bummed me out to modify them.

At the end of the day, the seats are worth every penny and the brackets I never see!

Thanks for the response. Yeah I'm thinking your lip grinding idea is the logical route. Perhaps I'll grind one side of the bracket holes to gain some there to. Here is a better shot of the lip

Exactly the same thing I was faced with......and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to make it work "as is". I spent hours and even slept on it when it got late the night of the install.

That lip didn't make any sense during the daytime either, so a little at a time went until the holes lined up.

I had this issue, with my 1978 FJ40 - All I did was enlarge the hole on the scat bracket, then loosen all the bolts, lined everything up and it bolted together. -Mark

Well....I got the Scat Procar seats installed. I used my dremel to hog out the bracket holes in the needed direction. I also ground a skosh of the lip of the bracket. I suppose I spent a 1/2 hour grinding. So I am happy with my seats. I even added a scratch in honor of @antFJ. I did have to shorten the wire that connects the slider release lever to the opposite slider release.

I highly recommend the dentist attachment for the dremel. It has been very handy, so I included a photo.

I think those are for your jack attachment points.

The three towards top are for the bracket to hold the jack in place. The three towards bottom are for the tool kit. Three little brackets that have a rubber bungee that straps over kit.

The Procar seats look GREAT!....but I might be biased?

To deal with the enlarged holes, I used lager washers (see below).

Red - Will you install a center console for your 40? If so, you may have to address the inner seat belt brackets.

The two front seats need two smaller cousins in the back?

GA Architect, I haven't ordered a Tuffy yet, but I definately plan on it. I do recall you mentioned having to do some modification there. I appreciate the heads up. I would be interested in advice on seat belt bracket modification if/when you have time. 6 1/2 Tuffy right?

@SSCR I have that black bracket, now I know where it belongs! I also think I've seen those little clamps in my boxes of many parts. Thanks for the help.

The Tuffy I have is the 6-1/2" Series II Security model with the 73-78 Console Mounting kit. Both the drivers and passenger side seat belt brackets on the SCAT seat adapters need to be removed (or possibly bent) to install the console.

For the SCAT adapters in my application, I cut the inner seat belt post off flush with the bracket bottom rail as seen here:

I installed the seat belt bracket that came with my new seat belts on the inner side & rear bolt of the sliders in lieu of the spacer, as seen here:

Note, the female end of the seat belt needs to slide with the seat for my setup to adjust from a 6' dude to a 5' petite woman. Thus the inner seat belt bracket on the Scat seat adapter is unnecessary for my rig.

Also, I cut the lower mounting holes off the passenger side sliders so I could install the seat as low as possible, with the bolts in the top hole. This is due to the fuel tank cover being close to the SCAT adapters.

Where did you get the seat brackets, they look new? Who did you buy the tuffy through? I have looked at a couple of set ups for my 78 but I want a bench seat in the back not the old jump seats. Any suggestions? Oh, and most of my mounting brackets are trash so I need a complete set.
