Scangauge Programming - Transmission temperature

I have seen t-case as high as 180 degrees for highway driving, the few times I have checked. I carry an IR thermometer.
 
I think it's reading a little hot. I parked the 100 outdoors at work today all day, about 8 hours. Outdoor temp was 24°F. The ScanGauge said the ATF was 45°F immediately upon starting up. It warmed up to about 100°F and stabilized there on the way home, a little less than 4 miles, top speed 45mph.

Parked in the garage overnight, which I keep at 55°F. The ScanGauge said the ATF temp was 68°F this morning at startup. Warmed up to 105° F on the same drive and stabilized there.... :cool:
 
Dropped the code in and now I have tranny temp! Thanks to all!
 
these OBD numbers are much lower than those on my 80.
They look real low by absolute standards too. Of course, my temps are not close to steady state in 4 miles.
Where is the sensor?
 
The sensor is in the ATF. :rolleyes:

I did a little longer drive today, maybe ten miles. Engine got up to regular temp, 188°F, and the tranny stayed about 100-115°F most of the time. City driving conditions, never over 50mph.

It does seem kind of low but I have no idea what it really should be. I guess I could do a tranny case IR temp measurement sometime...
 
I don't know what temp for the tranny would be "normal". However I do know the t-case, without the benefit of a cooler like the tranny, can run very HOT! You can feel its heat, again on a hot summer type day when wheel'n, coming up through the floorboard.

I'm interested in monitoring the tranny temps for those hot summer days when grinding up a long pass with trailer in tow.

I'm going to try to re-enter the codes. I'll post up later if it does work. I'll be on a 150 mile trip friday and can take readings when I get off the highway.
 
I just tried it on my '05 and it did not work for me.
 
Works on an 02!!

Just picked up my Scangauge II from AutoZone; had one in the past but it got stolen (:mad: f'ers) and just now finally replaced it.

Plugged in the codes for trans temp...and...IT WORKS!!

About to drive to the airport to pick up the wife; will report the data back.

EXCITING!
 
If Scangauge is accurate, my transmission runs cooler than the FSM values posted earlier (though those might've been for the 5-speed; not sure, I think Phil owns both).

About a 40mi round trip, from the burbs to Phoenix Sky Harbor & back. Hottest trans temp seen was 150F, right after getting off the highway to finish the trip home; cruising temp on the freeway at 70-75mph was ~123/127F (mid 120s). Torque converter lockup (as expected) plays significantly into temp; I remember my F250 was the same way (had an AutoMeter trans temp gauge).

Stoplight to stoplight, it seems to run ~137/140F, then cools off fairly quickly to ~134 when idling in park for a minute.

I'll see how the temps read on tomorrow's commute.
 
I wonder what year(s) work for the AT temp?

So far it's Phil's '99 and BManning's '02???
 
My ScanGauge reports about 115 degrees F on the highway for ATF temp. It's got to be too low but I don't have any way to calibrate it. Still useful as a trend indicator, the actual number isn't all that important. :meh:
