Were you able to get the transmission temp (ATT) with your ScanGaugeII on your 2000, 2001, 2002 LC?

I have searched countless threads but have not found a real confident answer on the automatic transmission temp with ScanGauge II question.

I am trying to decide between the UltraGauge and the ScanGauge and this is one of the factors. It doesn't sound like UltraGauge has added ATT (nor will they) and even with the ScanGauge it seems hit or miss.

I do like that ScanGauge can be easily disconnected and used with another car, you can even buy an extra cable. It seems weird to me that the UltraGauge buttons are on the back - though I suspect that once set up, you leave it alone.

I am not a huge fan of the SmartPhone with BT/WiFi option because I plan to use my phone for other things in the car and don't want it multi-tasking too much. (navigation, music, .... phone calls!)

What has worked best for you?

thanks
Andy

i have SGII on my '02, i think i only have water temp, not trans temp. is there even a sensor in the trans for the data?
i'm going to have to try out that coding business and see if it works.

There is a sensor, as I can read my LX tranny temp with a Bluetooth odbii adapter and the Torque app. I will have to try the scangauge code above.

Wonder if Dash Command supports the same for us iPhone dinosaurs. What adapter are you running/

Thanks for posting the code DJWUZJ! I should have done that in the original post.

So here's what I see in this thread:
scangauge II with Xcode for ATT that worked: '03 (DJWUZJ), '00 (pavieSD)
Torque (Android + BT) for ATT that worked: '01 (CappyKD)

Anybody else with transmission temp working on scangauge II or other?

UltraGauge Connector

Almost forgot.

I have been investigating how to add a separatable connector to an UltraGauge.

Based on this pic:

I think it can be done easily since the signals are not treated differentially in the cable or the soldering. I am going to ignore the post in the UG forums about not cutting the cable "because one of the signals is impedance matched because clearly in the pic above and in the OBDII and vehicle wiring no such consideration is given. Thinkg about all those OBDII Y adaptors for another example of not differential.

My plan is to use an RJ45 female connector glued to the back of the UG and then make up my own OBDII to RJ45 cable - and a spare for use in other cars.

There's an awesome install in a FJ at the same page above.

I'll post some pix and steps if/when I get it done...eventually. I am still considering the SG too.

ScanGaugeII supports Landcruiser transmission temperature. Here's a pic I took today:

Model year 2000. I'm not sure if I can pull the code I used, but I recall that I found it on the Internet. I think this is the one that worked:

TXD: 686AF101B4
RXF: 044105B40000
RXD: 2808
MTH: 00090005FFD8

You can try that and see if it works. You can also label it however you want, I chose TM* (Transmission Degrees) but you can make it any 3 letter code you want.

Thanks pavieSD! I added your info to the list a few posts up.
This is good news, because with a 2000 LC and a 2003 LC both able to do it, my prospect, a 2001 will be able to as well.
Nice mounting option. Does the ashtray open ok?

Andrew

Ashtray doesn't open without moving the scanguage. I simply mounted it with velcro, so no biggie to move it as needed. I don't use the ashtray, so it's only been moved a few times since install. At some point I will drill a hole for the cable, so I can lock down the spare change blank piece, but it's not high on my mod list at the moment.

I am running the more expensive one that is recomended by the makers of the Torque app. I'll look for the brand later.

Thanks,
Kirk

So what's a normal temperature for ATF? what's too hot? When does the light come on? :)

I have been watching this temp VIA SGII, following the settings above over the last couple of days. Haven't noticed it any higher than 145°F or so though... I guess I thought it would be hotter? Granted, ambient temp isn't much above 30-

Kirk I also have the Torque app on a junker android phone, but don't remember seeing Transmission temp. Did you have to do something special for that, like XGauge?

I've seen my ATF get over 220 degrees on a hot day with a steep hill climb. I assume it's ok for short periods of time.

No it was there when I searched for available pids. What did you do to get trans temp on the scan gauge?

I don't think I have ever had mine get that hot. I'll have to enter the scan gauge 2 codes for trans and keep an eye on it. That or switch back to torque.

I set up a new XGauge, and plugged in these settings:

TXD: 686AF101B4
RXF: 044105B40000
RXD: 2808
MTH: 00090005FFD8

Learned this from the "stolen from RobRed" thread, he gets the credit here.. :grinpimp:

I don't know about you guys, but I am running normal Valvoline ATF...

I can't find any temperature data on the fluid, other than a viscosity number at 100°C. Will keep looking...

I was able to find the diagnostic info on the A/T temp sensor, albeit from 80's land, but I suspect the levels would be very similar? This would lead me to believe that 230°F (110°C) is the threshold for turning on the light... thoughts?
