Didn't see parking brake shoes on your list after HIH. Replaced mine sometime ago as shoes where starting to decompose.
Forgot to adjust my parking brake for HIH, and had to have someone strap me back on Black Bear as brake slipped and I was jammed in Park until weight was taken off.

There was a few times on black bear where I saw folks set their rigs in Park and I didn't want to do it because of exactly that. Wish the emergency brakes were strong enough to hold these trucks but no way would I ever trust that. I replaced my brake shoes months ago and they literally fell into pieces in my hands when I removed the drum definitively looked original.

I've been stuck at my house with my family and neighbors for several days because of Harvey. Just before the hurricane hit us I was working on the bearings and didn't get a chance to finish before the floods came. Now the water has receded but we are still sort of trapped because of blocked highways. You can see my street in the background still flooded. We really did get lucky unlike many houstonians. We have never seen water like this... our city really got a beating. I usually wrench to get my mind off things so I had parts laying around waiting to be installed.

So to get my mind off of the situation I installed a power steering cooler I had and a new inlet and thermostat for the coolant as my old one was pitted and didnt want it to leak. I couldn't finish the truck to get it off the stands because I still need other parts and probably won't be able to for a while.

Took the roof rack off my '02 LC and I do indeed have the add'l mounting holes to facilitate roof rack wiring.
Now it's headliner removal time. I recall seeing the procedure somewhere but can't for the life of me find it.
Can you steer me in the right direction? Also, I am also going to run coax for ham antenna. Where did you end up mounting yours?
Thanks, Matt

Grinder,

The best way I found is to remove all the panels starting from the front and working your way back. The trim overlaps so you can't really do it any other way. If you have rear ac controls be careful not to break the wires from the controller on the liner they are very thin wires.

Mounted my antenna on m hatch bump.

Sorry for the derreilmernt...

Is that a sequoia unit..??

It looks new, is it a ''rebuild'' one, remanufacture....??

I need one pronto, where did you find such a nice chunk...??
Its the 100 amp stock unit for the landcruiser reman. by Denso. I forgot where I got it from but a lot of places have them.

Hi All,

Figured I would update the tread with latest. Everything installed has held up well with the exception of a few quirks which I'll mention.

Over the last year I've had a chance to figure out what I like and don't necessarily need on the truck which I'll also mention.

As of today items I've not listed here that I've added the rig are as follows:

  • BIOR Painted skid plates
  • Trail Tailor diff drop -Although I didn't need it..I had to have either this or spacers to fit my BIOR skids and I like Jason :). If you are wondering why I "need" it for the skids. The 100 series skids from BIOR have a Dip at the diff bracket well over an inch and with the stock bracket you need big spacers, with a diff drop bracket you don't need as much spacers.
  • New Denso radiator. - More like on my 2nd Denso radiator. I replaced mine as preventive maintenance and have had nightmares with Denso radiators leaking. I've helped friends with Denso radiator installs that have also leaked! Never again!!! go Toyota.
  • New Hub bearings and everything that goes along with it, hub bolts etc. as preventive maintenance.
  • Valve cover ventilation breather as preventive.
  • Windshield cam.

Things that are coming to an end of service:

  • Rack lights are starting to show wear with a couple of them having water finally getting in even after silicone application. We have had hurricanes, floods, ice storms etc. in this crazy 2017-2018 year here in Houston, so I'm not dissatisfied with the performance of these. Paid little and they preformed well for the price.
  • The driver side locking actuator is at it again and it has stopped working. I'm pretty certain this is due to the encasing of the actuator coming apart as you have to separate it when replacing the electric motor and it doesn't quite go back together like factory. I haven't opened the door to confirm but I'm pretty sure this is the case. At this point I'm going to go ahead and buy the entire unit as I don' t have time or want to have to the door apart again.
  • Winch (Smittybilt) - The winch still works and I have pulled a few things but they have not been vehicles mostly heavy objects. The wear is showing on the encasing which is mostly ascetic on the electric motor side. The encasing actually holds water and leafs! so I removed it completely as its actually is just for looks and does more bad than good.

What have I used most?
  • My drawer! - storing.
  • Trail Tailor tailgate storage lid- easy access storing.
  • Rack lights - By far my rack lights, they make a big difference when setting up camp at late hours, searching sites, and even just at home when working on the truck late at night. When the lights finally stop working I'll be investing a little more coin on these as I did end up using them more than I thought.
  • Blue Sea overhead switch panel - see rack lights above :)
  • Yellow Top Optima Auxiliary Battery - goes with out saying I've gone days of camping and never have had a dead battery from either bank.
  • Baja Rack full rack- I've loaded this thing considerably many times and it doesn't even flex when I stand on it.
  • Rear view camera- Now with the bumper and spare tire mount I rely on this 70% of the time.
  • Dissent Offroad rear bumper (mostly for towing offroad trailer)
  • USB Ports installed all over the truck.
  • PIONEER head unit
  • Weathertech mats (life savers)

What I have not used as much as I thought

  • Dometic fridge & slide .- I just didn't use is as much as I thought, I finally took it out of the truck and is now sitting in my garage on a custom built cabinet. I'll be posting this for sale soon on the forum
  • BIOR sliders.- I know I just put these on, but man they are a pain to put on and come off for service or check. Having had to replace the radiator twice last few months, I've realized these should only be installed if you really, really need them. Since I gave away my stock skid at HIH7 I'm stuck with these for now.

Whats next?

  • Definitively some upgrade lights for the rack
  • Dissent second arm
  • Kelly S. custom grill
  • New wheels! ( distant future)

I've been spending time on my offroad trailer but I figured this would be helpful info for anyone doing similar build.

I love the "Lamppost-Snorkel" combination you added! That is a GREAT idea for trail driving at night! It gives great peripheral lighting on the trail and provides others an indication of where you're at.
Where can I get one of those? :hillbilly:

This week I changed the engine mounts and transfer case mounts. At 80k the old mounts looked ok but the rubber was definitely hardened compared to the new ones. Also the rubber on the old ones had separated from the metal on one side. The difference was noted in engine noise and vibration.
