Your story conjured up two images I had to find. My Dad in 1944 and the cheeseburger. Good read Commander, thank you.

My Dad passed in much the same manner, I spent his last day on Earth at his bedside as well.

Thanks man, and I appreciate your posting the photos. The 1944 shot is a classic.

As always I'm appreciative of your simple insight, its a great way to get your head screwed on straight before wading off into the abyss...

I appreciate your midnight labors and look forward to tilting a Saint Arnolds DR12 with you at weeks end.

It does sometimes seem like an abyss, doesn't it? And as you say, it's often the smallest things, simple insights, that bring one the gift of perspective. I'll definitely see you on Friday.

Here's a few more pics--my Dad's old Ford, Poser's old Ford, and the man himself, Army, taken last Thanksgiving on the University of Oklahoma campus, in front of my brother's memorial bench.

If you don't mind spending a buck or two, I'd recommend a couple of songs I doubt most of you know: Dear Dad, and The Dad I Had by a San Diego musician named Joe Rathburn.

"Dear Dad" made my dad cry back in 1996. It still stirs up dust in my environment too.

Thanks Lee!

Thanks Sea Night for sharing your story. It reminds me of my Grandpa. He had an 63 Ford F350 stake body. I wish I had a picture of it. In his old chicken coupe he had a model T. We fixed it up and got it running. Some where there's a photo of Grandpa and Grandma in a parade riding in the T. Sure brings back good memories. Thanks again for sharing. Love old iron.

Great story telling as usual.

Thanks Lee!

here's to old men and old iron, and how we love them both.

dammit, I thought I was done crying on 'Mud...

Thanks for the story. I am currently resurrecting my late grandfather's 67 FJ40. I am also the primary mechanic of the 1949 Willy's that he bought for my grandma. She still has it.

Wow, have been away from mudd for awhile. catch up and my eyes begin to well up. Awesome read! Cant wait to see my folks at the end of the month. Mom fighting Breast Cancer. it would be great to just hug them and tell them i love them. Thanks Sea Knght!

I've got post #8 in this thread and I've been with your tale since the beginning (at least on Mud...). I've discussed the story many times with my wife mostly because she's caught me laughing and frowning on many occasions reading a chapter. I still can't shake Jen out of my thoughts (at least an image of Lindsay Vonn playing the role of Jen).

That last excerpt was the first where I forwarded my wife the text and told her to read it. Really good stuff, and you don't have to be a Land Cruiser buff or car geek or anything else to appreciate the message it sends. Thanks again.
