Caught up on my reading yesterday on the beach. My wife picked up some Shiner Ruby Redbirds for the occasion. Had a great day!

Great chapter by the way.

Remembering the Fallen

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

--Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

You probably know the names better than me but it was just after (south) of the toll bridge off San Luis Pass Rd.

Evidently you can no longer drive on the beach anywhere in Galveston County. Or at least I couldn't find a place....

So the other side of the bridge from Galveston? That's Follet's island, I believe there is a name for some of it between there and SurfSide, Sam's beach is part of it I believe..

You can Drive on the Galveston side of SLP, it's fun during the week, I had a buddy down yesterday, said it was 4 cars deep to the water..

You can drive on Crystal Beach with is also G County, you need a sticker for that for some reason.. AND the sticker is more expensive this year and they are recycling stickers from 2007 and putting a hole in them (holepunch)..

All the beaches are eat up with weed pretty bad right now, it will get better, always does. Snapper season opens next Friday, so hopefully I'll find some big weed lines out there and load the boxes up with some mahi mahi..

To an American Hero,
Thanks Lee for sharing this wonderful story with us all. Also thanks to all of our servicemen and women that have sacrificed to ensure our nation's sovereignty. Without these men and women, our nation would likely have a different language and fewer freedoms than we are currently enjoying. For those who have served and those continuing to serve, I thank you from the bottom of my heart as your sacrifices have not been taken lightly by myself and my family.
Lee, I know that 'Army' would be proud of your work on these chapters. That is not to say that he wasn't already overjoyed that you served, retired, and many other accomplishments that I am unaware of. You have aided me in retrieving memories previously lost and for that I am grateful. May the good Lord continue to bless you and your family with many years together making more memories. May we all remember our blessings and thank the Lord above for them.

Taking a break from a fire in Frazier Park, sitting on the helo and catching up on the thread. Seems like an appropriate place to reflect on lost buddies. God bless to the wives, husbands, parents and children that had a loved one that never came home.

On an entirely different note.....
I spotted 4 FJ40s in FP. Two red (not a big fan of the pop up sun roof in the hardtop) and two white. Hard to tell the years etc from the sky.

Cheers to all.

My first time behind the wheel I was about 10 in my Dad's 77 Ford F250 manual transmission. The next time was in my brothers 52 GMC pickup. Good memories...thanks Lee for making our Memorial Day weekend full of memories :)

I've been out of the loop lately and been busy with work but I'm currently stopped at a gas station in Silver Bay, headed north along the north shore of Superior towards Thunder Bay on 61 and couldn't help but think of your story while I'm taking in all of the beauty up here.... Cheers

Great scenery. I'm out of the loop too, and way behind on turning out the next chapter. Life seems to be intruding on my writing time. Hope to get back to the tale this weekend, and also manage to work in some 40 therapy by wrenching on the old rustbucket.

Did you drive the 40 to Minnesota?

It is great scenery! I'm looking forward to your next chapter Now that I'm back on track. I was going to start a Minnesota summer thread on chat but oh well.

I wish I had my 40 here but I thought my truck would do better especially on gas and pulling my boat. One of these days I'll cruise 61 in the 40.
