God bless you Army! Thank you so much for your service and for raising a son that has grown to be a man that any father would be proud of. Prayers going out to you and your family.

Way to go Army! An army of one!

My grandmother in law (96) just lost her fight (yesterday), but I was at least able to fly my mother in law out so she could spend time with her mom. Never doubt for one minute that your being there is helping him!

Great news Army keep up the fight

Glad to hear your dad is better Lee. Hopefully all will work out and Army can go home soon.

My prayers and thoughts are with you and your father!

Glad to hear it! The silence was deafening. Go Army!

Great news on Army.

Now get to typing or get your fat a$$ out and take a walk or something.

Army Jr.

Army,

For years my good friend Lee had an email address that started with armyjr@.

I did not think too much about it until years later after, when I knew him so much better. Why would a Naval Aviator have Army as his nom de guerre of an email address. I do not remember ever asking. If I did and he told me I do not remember.

You might wonder where his other title in the Land Cruiser world comes from. He has been Commander Armstrong since April of 2004. It started as a tongue in cheek ribbing over his debonaire handsomeness and demeanor and his affection for bling on his otherwise manly vehicles. Another 3FE guy, Greg Thompson, was going too far on his bumper plans for his FJ62 so I gave him the business, "Buy an ARB bull bar and have it chrome dipped! Are you in some kind of competition with Grandmaster Flash Commander Lee? Of Course Lee protested this ribbing, but surely not vigorously enough,"David (and Greg),
Good grief, my honorary title seems to get longer with every post. Grandmaster Flash Commander ??....does have a nice ring to it, kinda like Flash Gordon, but it's hard to fit on my business cards. What ever happened to plain old Boy-Racer?

FWIW, TJM makes a polished alloy bull bar for the 62, which they claim is lighter and stronger than the steel version. I think it'll take a winch. Unfortunately, you have to order them directly from Australia. Or, you could just buy a generic black ARB, and have it painted red to match those bling-bling bushings.

So Grandmaster Flash Commander Lee was shortened to Commander Armstrong but not until after other ridicule at our ruthless hands. On Apr 21, 2004, at 4:29 PM, armyjr wrote:

It's Grandmaster Flash. I didn't think it possible, but you are even
whiter than I.

Regardless of the origin of the name, he is The Commander on the 3FE list. Lee never says much about his service for our country so even his good friends who have the good taste not to ask do not know what rank he attained in the war in SE Asia.

Here is a definition of Commander in the Royal Navy from which provenance as an Ian Flemming hero we so affectionately affix it to ArmyJr. : Commander (often abbreviated "Cdr") is a senior officer rank of the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom. It is immediately junior to captain and immediately senior to the rank of lieutenant commander. Officers holding the junior rank of lieutenant commander are not considered to be commanders.

The Greatest Generation

We all know relatives or friends of relatives who served in WWII. Most of them do not talk about their service and we usually do not pry. If they wanted to talk about it they could. For many is is something they would just not want to think about again. I know they think about it, how can they not. I respect that they do not vocalize it.

I know by catching tidbits here and there that Commander Armstrong was wounded more than once. He never offered this info except to comment passingly on what it feels like to be on the receiving end of a 7.62X39mm round like the ones my friendly little assault rifle fires. I do not know which of his legs got hit and have not looked closely when he wears shorts. What matters is that he was able to make it back to the ship or base and land a huge helicopter, likely filled with wounded soldiers, before he bled to death.

What I am trying to relate in these few posts on the author of this thread is that he is an outstanding individual who is worthy of membership in the Greatest Generation.

We originally gave him the title of Commander to tease him a bit but we also deeply respect the man who is worthy of the title ArmyJr.

Rustbucket tech: My 77' FJ40 is in about the same condition as The Commanders red Rustbucket was underneath the pretty paint when he picket it up. The difference is that the issues are obvious on mine and I am looking forward to putting it through the same rebuilding process. I might take it from Houston to OKC and let the Corps there do the work.

Dunbar, I would highly suggest you and the Commander take a trip here and avail yourselves of the Bling capitol of the world..just think you could have stainless steel everything on your trucks and any paint job you wanted...the only Jeepney based trucks in the states..now that would be an interesting sight..and a truck that would live in infamy ....Lee

And they like 40-series blinkers on those Jeepneys:
