I had 4 full size crew cabs in a row.
Now that the Kids are on there own and I'm retired I don't need that much truck. The Access Cab Is easier to drive and park, fits in the garage and gets better MPG
The first Gen Tundra is a true med size, can still pull a small trailer, has V8 power and a 6'4" guy like me fits comfortably.
I have always been a used car guy. when I retired 5.5 years ago I started looking for a access cab. It had to be a 4X4 with bucket seats & center console I also wanted the 05 or 06 for the 5 speed and a little more power from the VVT motor.
It took over a year to find what I wanted and I was willing to travel for the right one. Then one day it popped up and was only 20 minutes from my house was exactly what I wanted only had 100k (Just broken in ) on it and was way under priced. I jammed right over to look at it, the owners phone was ringing off the hook.
I stole it for 11K 😍 immediately a friend try to by it off me for his son and offered me 18K and I get asked regularly if I want to sale it.

1 of 2 4Runners that I would love to own. 3rd and 1 Gen are the bees knees.

Yesterday while backpacking the NNML route I met David the wandering (EDIT) Englishman at the Taos hot springs and I’m glad I mentioned I was a cruiser head! It would have been a shame to miss seeing this 2001 HZJ78 back at the parking lot! This guy puts on some serious miles in his cruiser!

That’s the unicorn 4Runner I was looking for when I ended up buying my first 60 about 5 years ago. I’d still have one!

The Tundra was at Broadway & Yale on the border of Denver & Englewood.

I still regret selling our 5VZ 5 speed '96 - bought it with 150k on it, west coast, one owner, dealer maintained, every service record , nice leather, every option except the automatic. Put 100k on it and sold it for iirc 6500 in 2015. Was still mint. Never had a 5VZ truck I didn't like (2 4runners and 3 Tacomas). My favorite was a 95.5 extra cab 5VZ 5 speed 5 lug 2wd with the 14" alloys and a removeable moonroof. Pretty rare combo. The "race truck" but would return 30+ mpg highway regularly. Drove it while I worked in the Mistake on the Lake to keep the abuse of 3' potholes and salt off of everything else. Last I heard of it, it was north of 400k and had collected a barb wire pinstripe job, numerous whiskey dents, had been stolen and recovered with bullet holes, and used regularly to supply my buddy in KY with coal for his redneck hot tub - crossing the scales at the mine pushing 7,000 lbs on a regular basis.
