Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I announce that Eric Forrest (@forrest5000) finally lost his long fight against cancer. He passed peacefully yesterday morning after a short stay in a Hospice facility.

RIP Eric S. Forrest
06-30-1970 to 01-02-2025

Eric was a friend to anybody around him. His two grandsons, his longtime girlfriend, ONSC, and Upstate Cruisers were the driving forces in his life; he put all of his energy into anything involving those groups of people. It was rare for Eric to miss any meeting or event involving his Land Cruiser friends but when it happened it was only because of his devotion to the kids and Cindy. He might have kept his two worlds physically separate but anybody he spoke to in our world the last six years heard their fair share about those folks, and they've told me how they heard their fair share about us! His only sibling, his older sister, says his Land Cruiser friends meant the world to him and that he was happiest when he was with us or planning for a LC event. If you ever called Eric about doing anything at all you'll remember that he probably was all in: Lunch 30 miles away - yep. Daytime run to Uwharrie on a Tuesday - yep. Help out with a Mudship along 85 or 77 - yep. Come help working on your truck - yep...but don't expect any actual help!

With absolutely NO disrespect intended from me here, Eric miiiight have had a bit of a curmudgeonly side to him (he would admit that) but it didn't take long after meeting him to learn that his complaining was just a way of venting and that grudges were not something he held many of. In fact, that side of him has led to some great stories!

Since Eric was always involved in our activities over his 13 years with the club, so many of us have so many stories. Please feel free to post yours and include pictures when possible. I haven't had time to dig through my pic archive so please accept my apology for not including any in this post.

***EDIT: Corrected birthdate year.

I met Eric at the first and last ONSC car show at Scott Clark Toyota in June 2012. We were both new to the club but I didn’t know that. I just knew that one of the guys with the coolest trucks there (his FJ45) talked to me about everything under the sun and seemed to know his stuff. I felt like a somebody. Oh, and he said he really liked my shoes! He was really sunburned by noon and admitted such but never once complained because he was doing what he loved…a common scenario over the years! He might have kept the sunburn to himself that day but he sure did use my phone number to complain like hell over the next week!

Terrible news.

Eric was such a unique character with a great sense of humor.

I think I may have been the first person to post about his HJ45 that a few of us had seen around the Charlotte area in this post

I have so many stories and memories of Eric I couldn't really pic just oneAlfrom all the cruiser events to late night movie nights at my house with him and Andrea, to him joining the Keefers and the rest of my camping group each labor day in Pisgah.
Im glad I got him on the phone a few times over the Xmas season to chat. We had a great chat about the good old days, cruisers, music, the normal things we used to chat about. He told me how much he loved the club and told me how much @lowtops @JohnVee @Roxx @roadstr6 and @FJinTegaCay meant to him for their friendship, being there for him and help over the past few years when he may not have been the easiest person to be around. (His words not mine)

I posted these two pictures in FB the day he passed but I'll post them here. They are my favorite pictures if him from a Pisgah camping trip.

So very sad.

Eric was always fun to talk with and a genuinely great person.

I first got to spend some extended time with him on the Spring Tide Ride to Corolla, NC in 2016. We had a great time! He was a funny dude & will be missed.

Here is a rare photo of him working on his LandCruiser.

Forest, a great soul will be missed.
He did love his little Spanish 73.

This is so sad. He was awesome. Loved talking to him. He will be greatly missed.

Eric didn't fish but by his 4th Portsmouth Island trip he had gotten tired of not being one of the cool kids  and bought a surf rig. I tried teaching him how to cast for 20 minutes but he never got past the stage where he looked like Lamar's "limp wristed javelin throwing style" from Revenge of the Nerds! I think this was 2017.

Eric would schedule his work trips around the monthly triad club dinners, sometimes driving past his home to attend. Often with parts being midshipped from one person to another.

This does suck to find out, but at least his body and soul are at peace. Rest easy Eric.

Had to add that we would be remiss if we didn't just day "grilled cheeese" in Eric's honor

He's in a better place now. Rip buddy, I'll miss you.

Wow, Eric was truly a fixture of ONSC. Always walked away with a smile on my face after talking with Eric. Last thing he said to me was "You know you want to sell me those wheels, call me when it comes to you"

You'll be missed by many Eric, RIP you earned it.....

There are lots of great memories with Eric. When I joined the club, he was there for my very first trips. Most of these pictures are from 2013 and onwards. RIP to a great friend to all!

Here's the clip from my dashcam when I thought he was going to roll. The last picture is the same trail.
"Turn your volume down I cuss" haha

I don’t remember the first time I met Eric. But at some point he was just always there.
We were pretty good acquaintances when I sold him my 80 and our friendship grew from there.

I always looked for Eric at meetings or events because I knew his first words to me were going to be a joke or insult at my expense. 😂
That always set the tone for a good time. Eric’s friendship reminded me of my childhood friendships and that was comforting. I’m not the best in social situations but something about Eric’s demeanor always put me at ease.

I bought his Pickup and plan to drive it until the wheels fall off or the trans falls out. Then I’ll fix it and keep on truckin.

One of the items on Eric’s bucket list was a trip to the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum in SLC, Utah. We were able to make that happen for him in September during Cruiserfest. I think I can speak for everyone in attendance that this was an amazing and memorable trip.

Man Eric!! What can i say that hasn’t been said. Eric was a good friend to me. I called him cranky Eric. Always making me laugh with his crap. We put the lookers on the melting cheese the whole day and he sold it, guess what, he sold the truck without locker we had to take them out. The truck sat on my lot for a while with two 5 gallon buckets of pickles inside. Imaging how bad that truck smelled after that.
My last conversation with him was about how good the trip to Utah was. It was i great trip and we got to enjoy the museum.
I am very lucky to be able to buy his 73 from him. He told me it was hideous hahaha. He didn't like it painted and other improvements i made but he also said that he is very happy that i was bringing it back. He said that his eyes water when he saw the truck drive away. He will be missed, but wherever he is, make some $hit up or making a deal or make memories. He enjoyed live on his own way.
