While the roof is off in Brazil and we are doing some aluminum welding, I thought to get the aluminum rear bumper fixed as well and upgrade the taillight protection.

Recently the rear right light assembly stopped working all together. Now I know why. I am trying to get the bulb out, but after soaking the assembly for 24 hours in luke warm water with soap, there is still no movement whatsoever.

Any ideas how to get them out?

Penetrating oil or heated paraffin wax works well , the glass will most likely break but you can get a grip on the bulb housing with a pair of needle nose pliers . I'd bet that housing and socket is junk , if not you can wire brush it and treat the contacts with dielectric grease or paraffin if you can't find the dielectric .

Don't try to take them out with your bare hands, don't ask me how i know that, use leather gloves and if they don't come out break the bulb and use a needle nose pliers, push in and twist counter clockwise.

If the glass breaks, snapring pliers work better than needle nose. They grip the bulb metal at two places on the inside of the broken bulb housing.

Maybe a dumb question, but can you find a replacement light assembly? With that much rust you are asking for a lot of grounding issues and some really odd electrical gremlins. Ask me how I know!

Put tape around the bulb before penetrating oil. Other wise the bulb is very slippery. I have gotten out some that looked much worse, tape them up real good, PB blaster, put a glove on and gently wiggle and twist till the come out or break.

Smash off it's head and jam a big screwdriver down it's neck.

Gouge out the innards before thrusting and twisting with the screwdriver though...

:D
