I removed my Fuel Filler Neck (1981 FJ40) and soaked it in White Vinegar in an attempt to neutralize rust.

The net result is now I have several rust holes near bottoms of neck. The rest looks pretty solid minus captured nuts on top.

Should I attempt to patch? If so, how?

Or should I replace?

You could likely find a similar sized exhaust pipe section at the auto parts store (same O.D.), and simply cut off what's there and weld on a new section. You might only do this if you cannot readily find a new or used part.

I'd try and find a replacement. Matching tubing size will be hard. Carefully forming metal patching with a good deal of overlap and soldering them on would buy you some time.

post a wanted in the classifieds here on mud, good used is available

You hit up Cruiser outfitters for the part yet? They may have one in Stock.
