One of my tear leaf spring mounts is rusted pretty bad and I'm sure it's been dealt with on here before but I'm thinking maybe it's upgrade time. So I'm posting this thread for suggestions from those of you who have replaced these before . My questions are there any good after market hangers and do I get weld on or bolt on?

Ruffstuff. I have their front hangers on my 40. They may outlast the rest of the truck.

Best

Haha, sweet I just found their web site after searching the forum and google. Ccot used to have some but they're now discontinued.

I'm going to use ruffstuff outriggers and then reuse the hanger part. they will separate from the original hanger and if the metal is ok weld it on new outrigger

That's what I'm thinking I might do and maybe add a triangular brace in there. What is a shackle reversal and why would you want to do that?

Shackle reversal applies to the front axle and refers to swapping the shackles to the back end of the springs. The primary reason is to reduce wandering in the front end. For serious off-road ing it improves the approach angle. All this is subject to opinion and personal preferences.

It doesn't apply to the rear axle. The Ruff Stuff brackets, or a similar approach looks like your best bet. I've done the same thing before using flat plate, and cut the spring bracket itself from box tubing.

Thanks for the explanation, I'm still new to leaf spring suspension lifts even though there's not much to them. I also found where SOR sells the stock or OEM spring perches, is that something that would have to be riveted or could you bolt that back on after grinding out the rivets?

The spring perches are welded to the axle housing and should not be an issue if you are leaving the axle in its original configuration. If you do end up cutting of the rusted parts and rebuilding the hanger with aftermarket parts, be sure to use a protractor to determine the pinion angle, or take very careful measurements to ensure the spring pins end up in the OEM locations

I'm sorry, I meant to say spring hangers not perches.

You could use bolts in place of the rivets but you'll need to weld a bit too. If your looking for any lift over what you have now you could use longer spring hangers and shackles too. You can reposition the shackle hangers to keep th shackled in the 45deg range. Longer shackles will soften the ride as well as add overall articulation by allowing the spring to droop further.

It has a 4" soft ride now with sua set up and 32" tires. I would like to go with 35's eventually but I like the overall look of it now as it sets.

Sorry for the thread necro but I'm also looking for this part and haven't been able to find it new; left side rear spring hanger for my '78 FJ40. I see them for the 1980+ trucks and I see lots of the ones for the front springs or rear spring shackles but not for the front of the rear springs. Any ideas short of custom fabricating them?

Thanks,
Dave
