My son was driving his 100 series, 2000. Parked. Went to start it, key inserts and turns 360 degrees or so, no lights come on, steering wheel remains locked, and obviously no start. I’my guessing that it’s a broken lock, but seems odd. Opting to get Triple-A to tow it home, but am not sure on next steps yet.

I’m dealing with the same thing right now which happened today. Toyota will not sell the cake shaft seperate. My part number is 7853A and I have a power tilt wheel. There is a different part number for a Manuel tilt wheel. I was able to by the cam shaft on eBay with a couple day turn around.

My cam shaft is still in the cylinder lock. I have a feeling I will need to remove the entire cylinder lock from the steering column in order to get the broken cam out.

if you can please post a picture of the two bolts that are on the driver side of the steering column. These two bolts secure the ignition cylinder holder to the steering column. I believe mine has been messed with and the heads of the bolts have been sheared off. This is what mine looks like.

It’s seems most people removing these bolts are just setting a flathead on the bolt, hammering a grove, then changing the angle of the flathead and using the hammer to unseat the bolt.

You don't need to. There's several threads and even a couple Youtubes on replacing just the internal rod.

My cylinder cam broke in two places….. so I the end piece will not come out of the very bottom. When I tried to back out the off white connector at the back of the cylinder lock holder I found the brass screws were stripped not allowing me to back out the connector slightly. It’s all a perfect storm for me.

So now I want to the whole thing off so I can replace the screws, inspect the back connector, and put everything back together on my bench with proper light and space.

No worries. I got out the first piece, struggling with the second.

Yeah. That is why I ended up having to remove the security bolts on the ignition cylinder holder, drop the steering column while it was hanging for the two bolts near the fire wall, then remove the entire ignition cylinder holder. It was a PIA man.

Was yours power or manual adjustment? Yea, I don't want to try that. No idea how I would get it off.

Mine is power tilt. I was into the steering column pretty damn deep. It was harder to get it apart than it was to put it back together. Then putting it back together I bought some new hardware. Damn. I should have taken pictures. Do you have Manuel or power tilt?

Mine is manual. I can push the piece over but using a pick behind the stuck piece, it won't come out. Yet
