Hey Lowtide, how do like having aussie's front and rear? I have it in the back and think I will do the front the same. Mines not a DD.

Like it better in the front than I do the rear axle. Its up for sale right now it the for sale section ;)

Honestly though I did really like it, it just wont work in a 1 ton.

Great write up. I think Al's rig is well past the Dark Side - given all the hacking he's done to the body. Damn nice rig - and will be stoked to see him go with axles that might let him wheel a bit more. Like all Cruisers - most the value is in the owner, and man I've got to say that Al, Hales and the North Florida krew are half the reason I've been motivated to keep wheeling....Velveeta Wag is an institution :D.

Gonna be beastly on 39.5's - can't wait to see it.

Great job transforming the VWAG into what it has become!

Lookin forward to lots more killer wheelin trips with you and the rest of the gang.

NFC FOREVER:D

Why do you dislike it in the rear? Why do you like it in the front so much?

With an auto its awesome. Never know its there in the 80.

But behind the manual in v-wag it made to much of a racket...poping, clicking...

Never let me down though in the front or rear.

Are you going to have to outboard your spring perches for leaves or are we going to see some links?

I am going to stick with leaves for now, but I am sure it will be linked with in time. I really don't want to test out a new suspension at tellico. Did that once before and had some kinks that needed to be worked out. I would hate to do it again.

So, if the next big trip was not tellico I would think about it...

Thanks again guys...

ditto drove a buddys 62 with one and only notice it when you acelerate from a stop to turn (or do a doughnut) in my 60 i loved it out back as well but at times was annoyed with it (not much at all just kinda or made me remember it was there anyways) i have it up front now and love it! I have a detroit out back now and it is much quieter when turning and doesnt seem to pop like the aussie did... i think the aussie front and my detroit rear is awesome only thing better would be an ARB up front just for being able to run it open at times. but its no biggie. I run 2wd LO untill i think i may need 4wd then dro it down. but i have run it in 4wd on trails and have no steering issues to complain about tho i have noticed it doesnt turn quite as tight as i would when open.

u gonna outboard the perches at the frame or move the perches on the axle?

I have always thought moving the perches on the axle would give more leverage (wider axle and pivot point is same location) and thus more flex... could be wrong but it seems to work in theory.

I don't think anything is getting out boarded..Both front a rear axles are being narrowed to around 62" so I really don't think its necessary...Hopefully Ill have some picture to post in the coming weeks.

Love the rig...
Its one that ive looked to for inspiration since I got mine.
Your input, on my builds, has always been apprecited as a result!

Thanks for sharing!

What happened to the 8274, just curious why change from it to a M8000 slowmount

clearance... 8274 was an awesome winch, fast as all hell. But the M8000 was easy to mount up high. Have not really had to use the m8000 much yet so I can't compare the two yet. But I had the 8274 over all kinds of ledges and rocks.

yeah mate,
I am in the process of manking a winch bar for my 60, the 8274 sits back hard against the grill, the bottom of the winch is 4 inch above the chassis and it still sticks out 11 inchs from the front crossmember.

they are one big motha

i am worried that my approch angle is not good enough, I want to keep the 8274 though

Paul

I ran my 8274 clocked forward in order to fit it up tight.
