Well where to start with my butchered 40 series
it started out its life as i know it with a good friends dad he spent about 10grand on it at a mechanics reco engine gearbox and transfer then he got it legal and gave it to his son who rolled it at 80kmph on a freeway in only 2 weeks
it sat in there front yard for about 3 months with his dad removing the roof doors and windscreen and i had said if its ever going to be towed away im gonna be towing it
then i was around there one thursday and got asked you want that landcruiser i jumped up said yep and organised to trailer it home the next day
so i organised a friend to tow it home and well then the real story starts
at first i was like WTF AM I DOING i had grand ideas to drop another body on it a car body asnd use it as a summernats cruise weapon (www.summernats.com.au its a massive car show each year)
then i found outerlimits www.outerlimits4x4.com and noticed a few 40's and i got the bug i found someone selling a rollcage for $300 so paid a deposit and organised to drive the 400kays to collect it found a roof windscreen doors ect
took me 6 months to legalise it
the day after getting it legal there was a BIG 40 series trip planned so off i went ID NEVER DRIVEN A 4X4 BEFORE THIS TRIP first hill i was @&@&@&@&tin but gave it some gas and LOVED IT
from there its gone through lots of changes and lots of cutting
now the mod list goes
stock 2f running on custom made straight lpg setup (propane to the usa guys)
standard 4 speed and transfer with 2low mod
crappy 31” muddie recaps
6 point rollcage
front and rear lsd
chopped sills and no sidesteps
custom seat mounts and seats
chopped rear floor raised to top of tub
twin lpg tanks 150l usable fuel
raised custom front guards ½ the guard raise with the bonnet
60 series power steering and steering linkages
75 series tilt ajust steering colum
on board air setup with rollcage as 26l airtank
trimmed rear chassi corners
relocated stock tailights
thomas pto winch
45 series rear springs (8.8” wheelbase extention)
flipped 40 rears up front (5” wheelbase extention) total wheelbase of about 103”
everything on it ive done myself on a low budget ive only recently started working and am saving hard for a set of 36x12.5 swampers should have them just after new years
upcoming mods
tyres – these are always happening even when we have just brought new ones
5 speed and split transfer case
wider diffs 60 series or 80 series big decision time
