Toyota uses the Nachi 6202 NKE for the pilot bearing.

I have a Nachi in my 2F now, probably had what J is holding above before. I like the Nachi much better.

No idea if the other one was bad or not, it just didn't look as cool.

More updates tonight about the transmission swap. It's almost done. :hillbilly:

My last two clutch kits (Aisin and LUK) came with a KOYO bearing labeled for Altrom part #0781301

J

Good to know. The last clutch kit I bought had some Chinese bearing in it, but an OEM went into the end of the crank.

The H55F is done! I drove it to work yesterday. Cruising on the highway is AWESOME. Indicated speed of 55mph is right about 2050-2100 RPM. This is with 33" BFG Mud-Terrains and stock 3.7 gears.

Last night I had to see if my front drive shaft was going to fit. Indeed it does. Possible clearance issue if suspension is at full droop. Will test later on that one. There is about one inch between the cross member and the shaft. I can tell you that a non-DC shaft might not have worked or have been real close to not fitting. The double cardan takes up some of the difference in length and increases the driveline angle relative to a flat floor. The non-DC shaft would have a shallower angle and possibly hit the cross member. I only paid $160 for the length changes/ balancing, plus one u-joint I sourced locally from Toyota to get installed (no charge for install). Used C&T Driveshaft down here in Houston. Great work. Happy.

I will need to bend the shift lever to accommodate for my 2F "non-clocked" bell housing. 2nd gear is almost to the corner of my driver seat/ where my knee is. The throws of this transmission also seem to be a lot longer than the 4 speed. Or maybe its a longer shift lever. The customization doesn't bother me, it will get done eventually. Unless there is another part number for an H55F shift lever? Maybe it has a different bend?

The first drive in my neighborhood I had the shift boots off and no front drive shaft. It was fun to watch the clutch fork move. I threw it into low range (2-LOW) and first gear of the H55F. Nice crawl . Foot off the gas, just creepin along. Speedo read 0. That being said the lower first gear really does help with starting from a stop. I don't think the engine cared before, but it's definitely happier now. First gear seems to be pretty short, like changing to second in the middle of an intersection short. Me likey.

Admittedly the fifth gear change from 4th to 5th feels a little cheesy. Like someone bolted on a fifth gear to the 4 speed and added a linkage.

This is gonna be a great transmission and I can't wait to put some miles on it this weekend.

I'll try to get some pictures and more tech uploaded soon. I couldn't help telling y'all :)

PS- I know I'm missing a bolt. I'll have to order it. Everything I tried locally was wrong. M10x1.25 and M10x1.5 did not match the old bolt. So I've got no idea what pitch it's supposed to be. And btw, no leaks lol

Drive it a bit and see if you want to retain those 3.7s or not. I have my 60 setup with the H55F and 4.11s and and currently running either the 33s. With this combination in 5th gear at 70 mph the tach sits at 2500 and this seems to be the sweet spot while on the interstate.

That's pretty much what they did!

Glad that she's back together, and most importantly, you're enjoying her

I think 2500 is the sweet spot as well. Got my best MPG while running that with the H42. I will see how it does. When and If I swap to 4.11's you know I have to throw air lockers in at the same time. It just makes sense. Need a little more $ first lol

Yeah it is haha. Thank you sir!

When I did my transmission swap I left the floor plate off too for a day, and watched the clutch fork in amazement. Kinda spooky right?

Lol, just had to make sure it was engaging :D

Best way to swap to 4.11s is to pick up a parts rig 62. That way, in addition, to having the lower gears you can go the 2FE route. :D

10X1.25 was the original bolt size and pitch.
(I think) the Toyota PN for that bolt is 91651-61040

That's great you got it all buckled up! I remember my maiden voyage way back when too. It's so cool.
Yeah, I'm not sure what I like better, the lower 1st & 2nd & reverse on the H55F or the 5th gear. I also like how it is a quieter transmission than the H42 was. I don't like the bigger gap between 3rd and 4th at all... but you can't have everything. The 2F needs a 6 speed!

I already have 2FE stuff :hillbilly:

The H55 is a lot more quiet. I just did some miles on the thing. Performed flawlessly.

Grats on cruising the 5 speed. I am sure it is liberating... I have been limited to driving mine up and down a 10 house cul-de-sac..sux a$$ for 5 months....3rd gear in a 5 speed is like walking a thoroughbred. Enjoy Klinetime!

Maybe a RHD H55F shifter would work better.

Finally have time to post some tech to this :)

Here is my intermediate case on the transmission side. As you can see, no weird holes, and the provision for the oiler cup. This split-case is off of my 05/84 build date FJ60 with 34mm idler shaft.

Oiler Installed

Now onto the transfer-case breather extension. Stock little breather

Another post coming shortly...

Stock breather removed with a pair of pliers after loosening the cap and taking it off

The remaining hole

h55f3405.jpg

1/4" NPT tap. Used a 7/16" drill bit which came with the tap in the hole first, but as you can see above the hole measures out really close to that.

Fresh threads yo

Mock-up. I applied liquid sealer to the threads on final install (just because)

I tapped this breather before cleaning the case just so you know :)

Assembly, yada yada

My nice painted transfer case shifter. Thanks to @orangefj45 for some of the parts to this transfer case. Bearings, idler shaft, thrust washer, etc. And thanks to @beno for the transmission, and many other parts!

h55f3416.jpg

The front drive shaft loop/ bracket does not fit any more. The shaft off of the side of the transmission moved ~3" back. Did not re-install the bracket/ loop.

h55f3417.jpg

Also to note on this transfer case build, on the main shaft out of the transmission and into the t-case I measured the length of the splines available. The H55F was about 5/8" shorter. This was accounted for by a spacer on the shaft of my H42, removal of this allowed for proper install of the gear on the main shaft. Hopefully that makes sense. :hillbilly:

A few shots of the new oil pan gasket install and my twice repainted oil pan  Used BBQ grill paint, hoping that I don't regret that... It's what I had on hand.

h55f3401.jpg

Brake Parts cleaner to make sure its clean! and some number on the block.

h55f3409.jpg

Boom. Used Toyota FIPG on this oil pan gasket. On the pan side only. Light coat around it. Bolts through the holes to align for a few minutes then lift into place and installed without the use of longer bolts cause I'm awesome. Torqued to an initial 50 in-lbs then increased the next day to 84 in-lbs. Work from the inside out. 22 bolts total, 11 per side.

Gratuitous (blurry) shot of the trans/ transfer combo installed. Don't worry I have more.
