Those drive shafts have different flange patterns. The front shaft would also not be a double cardan. So I'd have to buy or drill my flanges at t-case and diffs.

Too much expense/ hassle for me. A shop can modify mine, and that's it, not buy this, sell this, rebuild this, modify that.

Plus. All original ;)

Umm you sure about those flanges? but with you there on not having stuff laying around.

Fairly certain on the flange patterns being different. Trust me it would be much more hassle than its worth to buy a late set. Plus this way I can be sure that my driveshafts are in good condition, they will go to the shop, get checked, hopefully cleaned, etc.

I like the double cardan driveshaft, getting rid of it would be silly. I've heard they are worth a million pesos :hillbilly:

I agree Alex, if you can keep it as close to original, that's the ticket IMO TOO!... For some reason... I have started to stockpile DCs (I think I have 5 now..)... Ya never know when I may need 2, 3 or 4 in the next build or two.. :meh:

Great work brother, wish I was there helping you out. Keep your vision and don't sweat the small $H!T!!!

Got some more work done today. I am suspecting I need to just go ahead and replace the pressure plate, clutch disk, clutch slave cylinder, and clutch master cylinder. Looks like I was riding the pressure plate with the throw out bearing even with the slave rod at its shortest length. All of these issues I had were just caused by this I guess. It never made sense though. I would adjust and adjust the rod and pedal, it would never fall within spec. Not sure when this issue started, but I'm done with that crap.

Here is the throwout bearing I was running, you can see a little wear.

Pressure plate, yes those are flakes from the clutch disk

Flywheel looks weird too, no deep groves or anything in it, hopefully I can get it resurfaced and use it

Clutch disk, flywheel side. Not sure what that red dust is.

Maybe an artsy shot to lighten the mood

Back of the motor, pilot bearing removed, and no it wasn't this clean. I had wiped it down for this pic. Rear main is in good shape, gonna replace it anyway, cause I like parts.

Bell housing pulled for cleaning, and modifications

I rented this pilot bearing puller (EverTough 67033) and slide hammer from O'Reillys. The puller had to be dismantled to be able to fit into the bearing, but it did work.

That is nothing.
You could probably get another 75K out of that clutch and a new one will go for 100K.

Well that's good to hear, what about the pressure plate, and flywheel? The wear from the throw out bearing is kind of worrying to me, and I'm not sure about the flywheel. @Pin_Head

I forgot I had these pics on my phone.

Got some gear oil.

And interestingly my 1984 Owners Manual says GL-4 or GL-5 SAE90. Along with a capacity of 4.7 quarts, less than the 85 and up. This makes sense because in the later trucks the fill hole is raised higher by the rotation of the transmission. Therefore more fluid fits in there.

Going to try and start cleaning parts after work tomorrow. Bell housing, maybe the skid plate if I'm having fun. Have a clutch master and slave on order.

Also I would appreciate some opinions on the clutch/ pressure plate/ flywheel. Good to re-use? Or not?

TIA

I got my flywheel resurfaced and it didn't look close to that. I also got the pressure plate and flywheel balanced with the crankshaft.

Yeah. This flywheel was resurfaced back in 2007 or something like that. It was shiny then lol. Just trying to determine if I should be concerned about the way it looks now. The truck still drove with the 4 speed in it. No slipping that I could detect.

luckily I had my extra engine apart when I did my manual swap so I could get the entire rotating assembly balanced, I'd just do it for the piece of mind.

As for the clutch I know a guy who's clutch exploded and it fried his h55f 2500 miles from home.

For less than $50 you can get that flywheel looking new again.

Georg advised me to get this clutch kit when I was shopping. I have been very pleased and it was a better price than I saw elsewhere.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the link, what does that kit include? Pressure plate, clutch disk, pilot bearing, throw out bearing, and centering tool? Aisin Clutch kit on Rock Auto is only like $150 (for the items listed previously).

If I had more money and time to throw at this I'd balance it, but for me the benefit of balancing a tractor motor just isn't there lol

Yeah my clutch disc could explode, but I'm seeking advice on the condition of the components, @Pin_Head already chimed in, just wanting to get a few more opinions. New parts are cool and all, but it sounds like these components are still in great shape. Wouldn't even be questioning it if this wasn't apart. And besides, I'm only planning on taking this 300 miles from the house :)

That kit includes the pressure plate, clutch disk, pilot bearing, throw out bearing, and clutch alignment tool. It seems to be very stout and well made, just installed mine last week.

It is normal minor wear and isn't worth worrying about. I would reuse the whole thing as is. If it bothers you, for another $250 you could get a new clutch and resurface the flywheel.
